The strap should be on top of the hood and the tank under the hood. Back edge of strap should be even with back edge of hood. If that is what your asking ?

Webbing goes between the tank and saddle mount under the tank. Hood goes on top of tank metal to metal with no webbing.

I glued a thin strip of webbibg to the underside of the hood where it meets the gas tank and it works well. You can't see it either. It's really only necessary under the tank though.

There are two pieces of webbing strips, a wide one for under the tank, and a narrower strip that goes all the way across the top and sides of the tank right under the hood about where the metal strap holds it down. The hood shouldn't have any ability to touch the tank.

There is a packing strip listed in the WD parts book. Shown under the hood between the hood and gas tank.
