I have a pile of mix and match rods and caps. Can anyone help me with rod orientation ? Which cylinders have the wrist pin bolts pointing towards the cam?

Some one can proabley set you stright  but on my 49 B  2 went one way and 2 went the other. The way i done was after fitting rod on piston  put piston in and slide down and you can tell which way it needs to go.

Don't know if this helps but it says the connecting rod is offset and the long side of the offset should be away from the nearest main bearing. Not sure if the wrist pin bolt matters?

OK, the other book says replacement rods are not marked and the pin clamp screw should face the camshaft.

That is the oranitation an the 201 & 226 engine, but on the B they are different. 2 face the cam and 2 face away from the cam to offset the bearings. Bob

From the manual.
Numbers 1
and 3 have the long part of the bearing
toward the flywheel, and Numbers 2
and 4 have the long part toward the
timing gears.
