After studying the Service Manual for the Allis Chalmers Fuel Injection Pumps and much online research, I have just about decided to rebuild the Roosa Master DBGFC637-54AF injector pump for my 180 myself.
Called around for exchange pumps and to re-builders for pricing. Exchange pumps from $700 and up to over $1,000. Depending upon the problem with the pump, rebuild from $300 to $1,200. Two things I know my pump will need is the flex ring and the pilot tube. Also a seal kit. The last time I was inside an injection pump was when I was in college in the mid '70s. My next problem is a good, reliable and reasonably prices parts supplier. |

I was told that 30 bucks is all it costs in parts to rebuild an injector pump on a 180 ; dont know how true it is ? I called a pump shop on a rebuilt one while back and it was $1000 ; I asked why , everyone else was $450-500 ; he said they are RARE ; interesting selling point i guess but WRONG ANSWER ; Andrew Gubbels does a good job and VERY resonable

IT IS ALIVE!!!
At 5 minutes after midnight, I started my 180 diesel. Poor old girl had a bad flex ring and it took me a while to get around to fixing her. With the help of a rebuild manual, parts kit and a couple of conversations with a couple of pump technicians I rebuilt the pump myself. The last time I saw the inside of an injector pump was when I was a freshman in college. The pilot tube had a groove so it got replaced. The pump vanes need to be replaced but that will have to wait until I obtain a new set. The flex ring was shot and was replaced. Measured the rollers and met the specs. Also replaced the check valve. With shipping, I have $100 invested in the pump. |

Sounds like there might be a sideline business in the making! Way to go on getting your pump repaired.
I was also in college in the mid seventies and it would take me awhile to refresh my memory on rebuilding those things.
Have a good one Clay.

Glad to hear you got it together. I know my D17D needs the flex ring too. Same scenario, last time I did one was in trade school. So far I haven't gotten the courage to do it...

One thing I did, which no one suggested, was to take pictures.
These pictures were taken at several angles. This made it easy to know which fuel line went where. |

Service Manual for the Allis-Chalmers Fuel Injection Pumps Roosa
Master D & DB Bosch PSB. I bought this manual on Ebay. Make
sure you are buying a service manual and not a parts manual.
The 180 pump is a DBGFC637-54AF. Roller to Roller Setting 1.951" +/- .0005 |
