I recently bought this tractor with a supposed eng oh, long story short got a good hosin and in need of a complete running eng, is a late serial # would like to have late eng even combine would be ok, trying to get together for Rantoul show, am going to Greenville tomorrow cold meet someone there I know its a long shot and short notice but I thought id try. If anyone has one or knows where i can get one please let me know. Thanks

A good 262 diesel isn't the most common engine you'll find. Whats wrong with yours? My opinion is you're probably better off overhauling yours. I just did one for a D17 and would be happy to share my experiences going  through it. Probably the most critical part of the build is getting the counter bores the sleeves set in right. Feel free to ask any questions, there are several folks on here who will know what you need to do to fix it right.

I know there not real common, I was just tryin to get goin quicker, The main problem with this one is it was cobbled together and set out, its got head bolt holes helicoiled and not pretty either, one lifter is hanging in block holding exh valve open, inj pump wont pump fuel to inj, the head has been welded up from inj holes to deck surface on 4 cyls, it just has alot of issues and i thought another eng might be easier. Thanks for input, I also need a complete air cleaner assy and piping, Ive got one off a gas tractor but I think the piping is to small

i have o hauled severar 230 budas out of the 45.cracks between the cyl liner webs and the injector ports in the head are no real big issue.as i have said before,if the top of the block was as well built as the bottom,they would be indestructable engines.the head gasket will seal your web cracks.as far as the cracks in the head,first thing to do is get it pressure checked at a machine shop.if it is not cracked into the valve seat,water cooling passages or the oilo ports,you should be good to go.if you are hunting for a no crack head or block....good luck

Pretty good chance you'll be able to find a good block at Colfax Tractor Parts. They're even there on Sunday. They had several 262's to choose from then. It was actually a gas block I put together for mine. I'd do like JW says and have the head pressure tested. It may not be as bad as you think.

I have a gas eng that ts locked up, I thought they had the same block but wasnt 100% sure, I'm just frustrated that I was lied to about the tractor, I suppose your probably the best thing to do is work with what I got.

If I do overhaul what I got where is the best place to get OH kit, I've noticed the aftermarket catalogs dont carry alot of diesel parts.

There are several places that list overhaul kits. I got all of my engine parts from Sandy Lake. At first I had A&I sleeves and pistons, but I got cold feet and ended up with Agco sleeves.

I know your frustration. Many farmers are of the honest sort, but you do run into a few horse trader types out there. I know of a few that you wouldn't want to believe a word they say and have to be very cautious doing any business with them.  the d19 are getting some age on them and they had there flaws. A man stopped the other day after seeing my D17D thinking it was a D19. He to was looking for a motor as well. I don't know about the comparability, but might be easier to go with a bigger and later design engine.

I've been a mechanic for over 16 yrs mostly on semis but did work for Case IH dealer for a while so I know some aftermarket stuff is not much for quality and some is pretty good, so I guess I was wondering where the best place to go is. Is Sandy Lake a dealer or aftermarket? and what didnt you like about A&I because they were one of the plces I was going to price.

When you start pricing what it takes to do a proper and thorough overhaul on a diesel 262, I decided I didn't want to cut any corners. Bill at Sandy Lake Imp told me he had used the A&I sleeves/pistons in the past and thought they were fine. What gave me cold feet was one of the guys on the Oliver board at YT had a sleeve crack on an 880 that he had gotten from A&I. I don't know if it was the sleeve or the counter bore not being right. I just figured O.E. was most likely to not have a flaw that couldn't be seen.
