Early Bs came new equiped with 15" single rib front tires. No one makes a 15" single rib anymore. Someone suggested making a pair by buffing or shaveing the outside ribs off of a tri rib for a more accurate looking front tire on a early B restoration. It may be worth trying on a old tire just to see how it looks. Anyone got any ideas on how to do one?

I do remember the single rib on the very early B tractors. In fact, - wish I was home to confirm - there is some early B literature that shows the B with single ribbed front tires.
The single rib tire could not be completely duplicated by buffing the two outside ribs from a three rib tire. The single rib stood out and the rest of the tire was rounded. Good Luck! Bill Long |

Big old 830 JD diesels ordered for rice farming came equiped with huge fat single rib front tires and deep lug rear tires too. They called them Rice Specials
All the old B&W photos of our 39 B show the front rubber as being single rib. I posted some of those B&W photos on here recently. I was old enough then to still remember the snake track they made in the dirt.
Dig up a very early B parts book and see the front wheel detail drawing with the single rib tire. Same page shows a wooden padded seat back too.
Bs were 15". Fords were 16". You can still buy a single rib 16".
Miller Tire would build one if there was enough interest to tool up.

RC used a 4.75x15 single rib tire. So Miller's new 5.00 single rib would be good for a restored RC as well. With 4.75 15s becoming obsolete probably before the first OEM tires wore out. Dad & I debated between going to 4.00 15s or 5.00 15s for the RC He's restoring. He ended up buying 5.00 tri-ribs while at Orange Spectacular/GOTO.

I have no idea if they were original or not but the U that Dad acquired in the early 1980s from its original owner had a pair of single ribs on the front. This was an earlier AC U with the Continental engine and spoke wheels. They were severely weather checked and eventually the sidewalls gave out and were replaced with tri-ribs by Dad before he sold it. |

I vaguely remember the tire that drives the Sidewinder Rotary cutter. Stevens Tractor sells one. The picture on their website dont look like a single rib and it costs over $200. Does anybody have any more information on the single rib drive tire? Another search said Miller Tire stocked them.

As I recall ALL front tires were single rib back in the day, I am 79 years old and this is the way I remember them.
