A friend of mine has a CA that got stuck in 4th gear, and then he was able to pull the shift lever in to neutral while still stuck in 4th.  Has only done this once.. he was able to get it out of gear without taking anything apart.  concerned, he pulled the cover off and we weren't able to see anything majorly wrong.. some wear on the forks, but I dont believe it to be major.  The ball of the shifter had been built up, but wasn't completely  round.  I'm sure its been discussed before, but what is the size of the ball supposed to measure?  May also build up the forks while we're in there.   Thanks -Wes

dont try to build up forks , just build up lever end until it fits into fork. measure the fork and the width of the ball end also.

My WD has this issue (like all of them seem to). I know the fix is to build up the ball and possibly the end of the shifter. Since I am not a welder or a machinist, I've often wondered if anyone on the forum rebuilds these? It would be ideal if somebody had sort of a "core" program... send me a good one and I send you my worn out one. I need the tractor for mowing pretty often.

The ball on the end of the shift lever should be 5/8 in  diameter.
