Would power hop possibly cause a kingpin to drop from my 8050 front axle? I had more than normal last week after putting new radials on it and trying to get my pressures right. Went to grease it and found the right side pin dropped out and the keeper was still intact. My thoughts are that the keeper was in poor shape, maybe that is just the culprit. New parts will be here tuesday.

Better be taking the other side apart too. I'd guess the pins don't fit tight anymore and the "power hop" just finished it off. New pins, bearings, thrust washers, etc...also add grease zerks to all four U-joints so you can actually grease them....check clearances as sometimes i've had to grind reliefs on the cross in the center, but greasing the U-joints is a good thing.

If you have the correct size tires and power hop, your slippage is high. Add ballast or lighten the load.

Dr. Allis, after getting some new parts for it, I see what you mean. I think the roller bearing on the bottom face of the new "bushing" or cup bearing must have gotten worn and allowed the knuckle to drive the kingpin past the keeper. First rainy day that comes along it will get torn down and fixed. Thanks for the input!
