Tractordata.com has the D14 down as having 31 hp on the drawbar and 34.1 hp on the best (tested). I've always assumed that that was probably accurate.
I found picture of an old AC add for the D14 that was advertising it as 43 hp. What is the actual hp of these machines?
I put a little bigger sleves in mine when I rebuilt it. It is only 1/16th bigger which, if I'm not mistaken, is about .0625 over. How much more power will this add?

34.1 hp on the belt, 31 on the drawbar, probably came from Nebraska Tractor Tests. You should be able to find that test data on line from their archives. 43 hp may easily be the same engine running 25% faster than on the tractor or those belt and draw bar ratings are not the maximum but the power at PTO speed. Inflated maker's claims is what inspired the Nebraska Tractor test law.
3-1/2" (I'm guessing) piston area vs 3-9/16" is a minuscule change. If the pre rebuild engine wasn't worn to the point of loosing hp it would take a research lab quality dynamometer to tell the increase in power and between two different engines in good shape the difference would be less than the affects of plug quality and carburetor tuning. Area changed 3.6%. In the noise on the gauges on the dynamometer.

Dyno'd my 2 this past summer. 1958 got 34 hp on a 10 year old engine. 1959 With a complete fresh rebuild got 35 on the pto.

Allis was never known to overrate a tractor's horse power and in fact was more known for underrating the horse power. I'm sure D17 Dave is right. Although I seem to remember that maybe a very few of the late D14's had a 160 cid engine as compared to the 149 cid. Do I have that right?

I have a peice of literture on a D14 industrail and it list it as 45 if memorie serves me right. HP are rated three ways . 1 Flywheel 2 PTO 3 Drawbar. 45hp is flywheel. Ford was bad to use fly wheel HP on there tractors.

And that flywheel HP was probably at a higher engine speed than governed in the tractor.

And a D14 never had a 160 cube engine....only the late (series 2) D15's had the 160 engine. All D14 and early D15's had 149 engines rated at 1650 and 2000 rpm respectively.
