I accidently stumbled on the long lost carb for my d201 this morning, and it inspired me to get some more work done on the engine. I finished the bottom end and got it off the engine stand. All thats left to do is double check my mag, put the valve cover on and a flywheel/starter and i should be able to see if it will make smoke. Then the "plan" is to put it in the wc so i can dyno it, and then back in the chopper. This project has been going on longer than i'd like to admit and it feels good to see the light at the end of the tunnel. ![]() ![]() |

You're a little bit farther along than I am with my 262 diesel. Just found out tonight that four of my ARP head studs are about an inch too short. Soon as I get the correct ones I can put the rockers on and bolt it back in the tractor. It got pulled apart a year ago in Sept.

I like the old LeRoi engines, some things identical to the Allis, and some things are just verry similar.

We have got a couple of those lying around here, very similar to A-C in a lot of respects.

So what is really different? Did they just choose some parts from the A-C bin and assemble an engine? Mitch has commented about them having stronger connecting rods in the past.

The only difference in the connecting rod is its a floating wrist pin. Thats pretty much the only big difference i found.

The 226 Leroi with the Lerio combustion chamber head has a half inch longer rod . I will post the picture of the rod again tonight beside the allis 7.5 long rod. |

Looks like the beam is heavier along with the floating pin and length. What else besides the combustion chamber? Seems kind of odd that LeRoi made such a change. Too bad there is probably no one left engineer wise from LeRoi who could tell why they made the changes they did. Seems like the 201 was pretty good right from A-C.

gov.weights are heavier and takes a heavier gov . spring . When the lerio gov spring is used with the allis wc gov weights the governed rpm is 3000

Whats a wd have for engine hp? Was just reading through my leroi manual and it claims the d201 should make 43 at 2000. The only difference is the carb, so i wouldn't have thought it would be that much.

Mlpankey, what kind of rpm's due you get out of a gleaner E 226 engine when you use the gov spring out of a 226 Lerio. I have a 226 Lerio wondering if it would be good to interchange some parts maybe even the exhaust manifold?

I never used the gleaner gov . so I couldn't say and be certain . I know that Louis Haney says the parts book shows all the replacement gov weights being the same . Dr Aliis posted on here that there was some differences. I don't know that to be certain either both men are intelligent.I used wc govenor got 3000rpms when using the Leroi spring when using the 175 spring on the wc gov. i got 2000 Based on my experience i would say you would get the same.

Dont care about the 226. My leroi engine is a 201, no fancy canted rods. |

well i guess you will just need to dyno the 201 . Cause i only know the horsepower rating for the 226.

Was the LeRoi tractor company the one liscenced to build these engines and could the reason the were beefer than the AC version have anything to do with being used as an air compressor?

The 226 I have is a gasser and still has the carb set up on it. Its a power unit off a bean picker. Between the Gleaner E and the Lerio their nice power combination.

Leroi's had a different cam than a wc-d17, and the main thrust bearing was different. There were other differences too, but nothing spectacular.

Does your Leroi 201 have a plate on the right side like a WD 201 engine does?

YES YES YES>
thanks you Powertech.
The photos are great! I have this same engine in a WD45 that I just bought. It has the same coolant manifold, with no thermostat in it. It has the same oil filter housing. It has the same little plate underneath the oil filter housing. It has the shorter head on it, as a WD 201 engine would, and I was thinking I had a WD45 engine, with a WD head, because I didn't have the big plate on the side of the engine that the WD had. Now I know I have a D201 Leroi! Thank you! |
