Does anyone recognize this clutch? I removed it from a D15 series 1 last night. It is heavy. The pieces welded in between the springs are solid steel. I'm just curious if this is something home made and made to fit, or was something that people used for certain applications for some reason. It's toast, and I'm replacing it with a standard off the shelf clutch. ![]() |

They were probably meant to add rotating mass to the flywheel….

I have a couple pressure plates like that. Also the lining on the old clutch is between the Old type fiber lining and cerra metallic. I will have less slip than the fiber and it's easier on the flywheel than a button disc. I have some of those in my NOS parts.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

AGCO parts books only shows one pressure plate for gas and diesel. I could see that heavy one being used on the higher compression diesel to smooth it out. Remember, D-14-15's only had a 9 inch clutch and a pretty small diameter (and light-weight) flywheel as compared to a WD-45 with a 10 inch clutch and 50 lbs flywheel.

I also decided to take a look at the power director since I had it apart. It was a little noisy but was still working. For some reason the tin shield got all chewed up. I really dont know how this happened. The bearings seem tight. The snap rings were all where they needed to be. The drive hubs should not have been able to make contact here, but something happened.

Looks like a shade tree mechanic tried to remove snap ring. Does look like a failure internally. If so, there will be parts in bottom of sump housing. JMHO, Tracy

Inside that bearing retainer sleeve - the one with the metal chute above the shaft, there is supposed to be a spring. The purpose of the spring is to funnel or auger oil to the clutch - there are two - one for the power director and one for a shuttle as in a fork lift. These sometimes wear out and break apart - usually resulting in the damage shown. 70228322 is pn.

Yes- I finished taking it apart this morning before going in to work and sure enough, that spring disintegrated. I'm heading to the salvage yard tomorrow to try to find some parts. Currently the prices I'm seeing online are a bit high considering the drop in value these D series have had the last couple years.
