My HD-9 has a bent equalizer spring and was welded in place, out of its intended location by the previous owner. My mechanic and I were able to break the weld and lift the eq. spring off the track, so we can move / float the body over the undercarriage.
The spring is oriented incorrectly (not like a leaf spring up and down, but it is on its side), which I thought was strange. The previous owner must have hit something really hard, LOL. Does anyone have any tips for finding a replacement equalizer spring? It looks bigger than a semi-truck spring so I don't think that would work. Maybe a custom build up with that spring tensile-steel? Part # 056038 TIA! David in TX Edited by dfoshee1 - 01 Dec 2025 at 4:41pm |

i made one from some slat steel bar stock of appropriate width and length. One piece of flat stock for each original spring leaf. It has worked fine for some time now.

the spring in the photo has been home built; it was never that originally.
Spring obviously has worked alright. But something is very wrong for it to have completely have come out of the track frame stirrup. whether it has a broken centre pin or something is very wrong. Nose needs securly blocking up and spring, centre saddle needs removing and repairing. Went through same scenario on 1 of my HD6s last year.
