7020 Pulling Tractor

   Back in the spring I got a good deal on a 7020 black belly that had been sitting 10+ years. After a new starter solenoid and some injection pump cleaning I got it running and spent the summer pulling it in out of field classes. I’m hoping to pull it in our 10k “stock” class next year. Currently all I’ve done is back out the torque screw on the injection pump and slightly advance the timing. With that being said, here’s what I need help with:
Getting it down to 10k pounds
Suggestions for more horsepower 
Other suggested modifications for pulling
Class rules are pretty much 3k RPM, ag governor, motor has to match brand, and 10mph speed limit

	Pretty hard to make enough power to compete in a 10k lb. class with only 301 cubic inches.

	A 7020 Power Director with a 200 lb driver and 18.4 x 38 non-PS rear wheels and 10:00 x 16 front tires should weigh 11,300 lbs with zero weights and zero liquid ballast. The 3-point hitch draft arms and lift links would have to be removed. That would be probably be 300 lbs. The regular drawbar (if it was mine) and slide hanger would have to go and I would build a pulling eye to the proper height and attach it to where the roller for the drawbar would roll on. The rear wheels would need to be removed and replaced with a set of 9 bolt dual wheels (stamped steel centers) and axle hubs. That MIGHT get you 700 lbs. One battery and the small fuel tank will have to go. That would be 100 lbs. Looks like the cab doors both sides need to be removed and you might just squeak by. Increased HP ?? Takes more fuel and more air and that costs money. Lastly, you don't say if it is a tractor to be farmed with AND pull twice a year at a county fair ??

	Just a tractor to play with, have others to farm with. I hit every pull in our association with the exception of a couple that are further than I want to drive. I have a set of steel wheels, just trying to find hubs or have a set built. I plan on pulling the cab completely. I had it down to 11,320 with no driver. As far as tractors go I’m a newbie. 	All right. So it's yours to do with what you want and how much time and money you spend on it/with it. As far as being a real competitive model to pull with, in a 10 MPH class, it ain't. A 7030-40-45-50-60 have 125 more cubes and will weigh only another 500 lbs or so. The 426 engine would align better for HP capabilities that would be pulling in your 10K/10 MPH class. Your engine does much better in a 180 or 185 chassis at under 7500 lbs. If it's all in fun, then make it happen. Edited by DrAllis - 1 hour 22 minutes ago at 11:23pm
