7010 oil in coolant

Hi everyone.

Ive got oil in the coolant of my 7010. (About at least 1/4 inch floating on top of pail after draining) Ive removed oil cooler and pressurized with homemade hose clamps and such... seems to hold air at least 10 min (if my seal job isnt leaking:) )

Am I looking at another head gasket now?   Replaced head gasket 300 hrs ago due to major external leaks. ( outside is dry now.)

It is almost certainly the oil cooler. Pressure it on the oil side and submerge in hot water.

Is or was the radiator low on coolant??   If the tractor has been sitting for a day or two, loosen the oil drain plug on the pan to the very last thread and see if any coolant comes out. In 50 years, I have seen ONE failed oil cooler, and it was on an 8050 tractor.  I have never seen a head gasket do as you say either. BUT, I have seen dozens and dozens of failed cylinder sleeve Orings that always put coolant in the oil pan and SOMETIMES they also manage to get engine oil into the cooling system. Proper diagnosis is key, and that involves dropping the oil pan first (with the cooling system intact and full of coolant) and pressurizing the cooling system to 12 psi (hand testing pump) and waiting to see where the coolant comes from. Sometimes I have had to plug in the block heater to warm things up to make it leak. If you do this, you will need to monitor the pressure because it can go over 12 psi and then you fix the radiator too. Any signs of shaving creme looking gook on the inside of oil fill cap or snot dripping from the breather hose is 100% for sure you have coolant in the oil.

Have cracked the oil plug a few times after sitting for days.. and no signs of coolant in oil.

It was low on coolant. First noticed it running warmer then normal and the end plate on head (combined head) was leaking coolant . Fixed the spot externally ( where gasket had failed) so we didn't have to take water pump off. When we added coolant we saw the oil skim.

Does that plate seal coolant and oil?

No. But back up a bit. You have had a problem like this in the past, Yes ??  Are you sure you don't have some oil residue from a previous failure/repair??  It's nearly impossible to get every last drop of oil out of a cooling system. Is there shaving cream snot on the underside of the oil fill cap or valve cover ?? or dripping from the blow-by hose ??

I dont see and sludge or creamy oil on fill cap or dip stick and cant see how that much oil would have been in there still from last years head gasket repair.

But I think from what you're saying I should prob flush system and fill back up with water and run it again to see if it repeats?

Yup. I use Dawn dish soap (2 -3 ounces) and flush a couple of times with water.  Remember, the oil always floats on top of the coolant. Overfilling the radiator in the morning will help vomit out excess coolant and hopefully oil with it. Coolant level needs to be checked daily when using this tractor until you figure out what's going on. You do NOT want to get those cylinder heads HOT. They start leaking coolant in on top of pistons if gotten hot enough. Copper injector sleeves do not like hot temps.
