My dad has a farm 5-6 miles from us with a machine shed and some neighbors right across the road that keep stealing stuff, last time (about 2 weeks ago) they stole the battery’s out of my dads D7E Cat and his fertilizer spreader. One of the D7E battery’s is 140 lbs!!!
Getting very sick of them now because we have to pull all the batteries out of anything up there. And the other “stuff” they do…

Dust the parts with security powder.  It turn stains the skin purple when it comes in contact with moisture.

Security cameras will help prove the identity of the thieves.

Not a lot of stole tractors get recovered, but you never know. Fifteen years or so ago they cough a guy bearing tractors he had stole, going to dig them up at a latter date and use.

Back when a JD 2950 was a new tractor, one disappeared here. Sitting next to a major road. Belonged to a guy that was use to momma coming and fixing his problems. But momma had died in the last year. Only 400 mile to Mexico, so that was my guess. Maybe even with the owners help Wink.  But the insurance company paid  off.

A few years ago now a druggy living on 10 or 20 acres is getting in trouble after being off police radar for years. His parents had money bought the property and dolled out money to keep him high but out of trouble. Parent died he ran out of money. So creditor close in. Sherriff is looking things over check a tractor sitting out in the weeds.  The long lost JD 2950 is found. The druggy had just got on driven tractor to his acreage cut the weeds with it. Had used it every year, until his gravy train ran dry of funds.

But within the last 5 years the professionals pull into the JD dealer fenced lot loaded a tractor in the night and got on the highway. With security system, the Sherriff office got notified.  Tracking devices on tractor shows it on the main highway Wink south. With in an hour of the first notice, the tracking device stopped sending any information. This from the Sheriffs office, the professionals know how to disable the tracking devices real fast.

Interesting Ray. Had an uncle in Wisconsin that used to claim he buried his snowmobile to keep it from getting stolen.
