Praying mantises are one of my favorite bugs. I found a large one a few days ago and let it crawel on me for a bit.

When I mow the horse lots or bush-hog the fields, I run into pockets of them numbering in the thousands; most of them about 1-1/2" long. If they are in grass or brush and don't move, they more often than not go undetected, even to a sharp eye.

Definitely hard to see. Was watching a hummingbird flit around some flowers at my sister’s house. Hummingbird didn’t see it either until it was too late. That mantis was FAST.

Have seen a few recently, wish they were here earlier so they could have had a diet of potato bugs! Does anyone know, do potato bug eggs overwinter in the soil? If so, guess I need to sterilize soil or not plant potatoes next summer.
