The chaffer fingers on the F3 get bent in corn from cobs thrown by the chopper. I have the corn kit installed including the curtain and corrugated shield. Am I correct in that I am missing #40 on the parts diagram? If so, how does it attach if I can find one? What else should I be doing to correct this problem? Thank you!

Straw walkers need to be slid almost clear forward would be the first thing. The straw chopper has two pulleys on it and you need to be on the large one. The chopper cuttng fingers MUST be fully retracted for corn. There cannot be any opening to let the cobs get thrown forward.

Shield has 8 bolts holding it in. Better have it if you want to save the rear wall. Corrugated shield needs to be in place adjusted correctly. Everything else Doc says. Can't remember if book speakes to all the placement/ adjustment of corn kit. With curtain in place i don't know how you're throwing cobs on chaffer. Maybe the missing shield.? The curtain just clears the knifes.

Thanks for the help guys. I do run the slower speed in corn with the knives fully retracted. How does moving the walkers forward help with protecting the chaffer? There's no info in the manual on the corn kit. I've not had any damage to the back wall. I will find a shield and adjust the walkers. Thanks again.

For corn/beans the walkers should be 1 1/2" from the front, not way back like yours are. With the walkers back that far, it looks like the gap under the walkers to the chopper front wall is more open, which isn't good. It also allows more cobs to cross over the chaffer/sieve area because they are too far back.

Thank you!
Could the walker position also lead to shoe overloading? I have a problem with when I am getting too much return I have grain spillage where the shoe meets the frame. Edited by Ben (MI) - 8 hours 7 minutes ago at 8:17am |

YES !! Get the walkers almost clear forward to lighten the shoe load, especially in corn.

there were also pads that went under the ends and back of the straw walkers that had a lip on them to divert 'foul balls' down before they hit the shoe chaffer. Also by moving the walkers forward it will dump the cobs in the FRONT of the chopper and thus the cobs will be exited down and back - IF the cobs are dumped in the middle to back - the cobs will be thrown forward - again as a 'foul ball' would be hit in baseball. 71311820 best I can remember.

If all else fails the MH3 combines had rubber flaps on the end of the walkers 71300960 - something like this could be mounted under the walker between the chopper chute and the shoe under each walker.
