Yesterday, June 6, was the 81st anniversary of the allied invasion at Normandy. I was going to post a reminder yesterday but I was out in the sticks and only had my cell phone. There was only brief mention of it on the news. Our country needs to remember and honor the bravery and sacrifice of our fighting forces on that day.

Nearly all of the Greatest Generation are gone now, a handful went to Omaha Beach for the remembrance.
My Dad and Uncle were late into the war, so too BILs Father in Law, none of these are alive today. All we can do is remember the day, remember the history to which dumbed down schools no longer present these to any real level.

We need to remember not only D-Day but all of the battles our men and women were involved in! Many people don't know that 10 days after D-Day Saipan and Tinian were invaded in the Pacific. Not as large as Normandy as Amphibious Invasions, nonetheless it was part of our effort in WW2!

BILs FIL was on Kwajalein, Saipan, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. USMC.
He re-enlisted into the Marines in 1950, ended up in Korea, unluckily at Chosin. He was one of the Few that returned. Passed during Covid where was minimal guests to his funeral in ST Louis County. Buried in his Dress Marine Uniform, it still fit. Edited by DMiller - 7 hours 34 minutes ago at 11:05am |
