Hello - I am new to the forum and I just purchased a 1962 D19 Diesel that needs some TLC. I am hoping to get some feedback or suggestions.
For starters this is my first AC tractor so everything about it is new to me, the tractor had sat for 10+ years outside. I bought it from an estate and the family members really didn't know anything about the tractor or even if it ran. Luckily I was able to speak to the neighbor, and he told me that the tractor had been rebuilt and was running when parked. I dug it out of the weeds and brought it home last weekend. I power washed it and started looking it over, it's not in bad shape all of the metal is straight and the engine is free. I checked the oil and it looks surprisingly decent as well as the coolant considering how long it sat. The bell hosing inspection cover on the bottom wasn't in so mice and whatever else packed it full of junk, I was able to dig it all out and blow it out but when I did a wing nut and a large spring fell out. I am wondering if it was parked due to clutch issues when we moved it the clutch wouldn't disengage or work just had to leave the tractor in neutral. I plan to try to start it before I go too deep with trying to split the tractor. Anything else I need to look for? I have already started cleaning the fuel system and am waiting on an IT service manual.

If it was my project, I'd start with a clean fuel tank. This may well require power washing with hot soapy water and rinse or even a light sandblasting first and then power washing. Fresh non-bio fuel is what to use. Make sure all fuel supply lines are clean and flow fuel. Change both fuel filters. Loosen the fuel supply hose at the injection pump and tighten when it begins running a solid stream of fuel. I would turn the engine (by hand) over two+ full revolutions before trying to start it. I would loosen one injector line at the injector nozzle. I would then set the throttle at half-speed and turn ON the fuel shut off lever. I then would have someone pull me to try and start it with the D-19 in road gear and the pull tractor going fast enough the tach reads 1,000 RPM minimum. If it has quality fuel inside the injection pump it may well start.

Welcome to the forum.
To add to what the doctor advised there, if/when pull starting you may well find the clutch frees up with a few shock loads while in the disengaged position. I'm not sure what a wing nut and spring would have to do with clutch operation so maybe a red herring, the plates can stick together from sitting though especially if there's been moisture and/or vermin in there.
