Dr Allis ? Does someone make a Gear Reduction Starter for a D17 Diesel ? Can you remove a canister oil filter base and mount a Spin-On base ? Thanks, Elvin

Oil filter base shouldn't be an issue. A newer gear reduction starter?? I have no idea.

I have a D17D, spins over quickly. The key is good grounds and heavy battery cables. 2/0 welding cable with crimp connectors works best with the correct + and - terminals. They are a different size and it makes a world of difference. Not only on a diesel but gas as well. My WD suffered from a slow roll over until I changed all that out. Just started it today after winter hibernation and she spun over quickly and fired right up. 6V battery and didn’t even trickle charge it. I’m telling ya, it makes a world of difference.
