The crankshaft pulley does not appear to be broken in any way. But there is another part that goes over the top of the pulley and has 4 set screws that attach it to the pulley. What is this part for and how do I know what the tolerances should be or how should it be adjusted to the crankshaft pulley?

That is the pulley used in the Charr-Lynn power steering kit back when you could but a complete setup. You can use a factory p steering pulley instead if you can't get the 4 set screw add on to work.

So I think that the bolt fell out for some reason. I plan on trying to just put it back on with a new bolt. Is there any reason that won't work or a problem I'm not thinking of?

The bolt that secures the OEM crank pulley to the crankshaft snout is a special pointed nose bolt with an Allen head to fit under that power steering pulley that was added on. If the tractor doesn't have power steering anymore, remove that add-on pulley.

I thinking it take a special bolt with a locking nut if I remember right, but it has been awhile ago when I had to redo one, I'll look and see if I've one on the parts shelves if I remember the next time I'm in the shop.

OK. So, you must use the setscrew and jam nut required to use the power steering pulley. You cannot use the original setscrew AC used, as it is too tall.

search WD45 crankshaft pulley....you can buy new 2 groove pulley with set screw. Don't cry about the cost. Be glad it's available.

I suppose in theory you could chuck it up in a lathe & clock the OD of the pulley groove but not likely to be THAT critical. Main issue would be locating/making a suitable set screw to hold it in place. Assuming the snout of the crank/ID of the pulley are still good I'd probably consider tapering the end of an Allen set screw to engage the crank & fit with red Loctite along with the lock nut which may have been lost originally (But then I am notoriously cheap & it might be "safer" for the crank long term if you bought the correct 2-groove pulley just in case there was something going on with the original).

If it was me I would buy the factory pulley, the char-lynn pulley has a tenancy of the set screws coming loose. I got the set screws I use from a farm store and use lock nuts, you must try and get it centered and have the pulleys line up also ( it can be a bear cat) as you can see I put some weld on this one. I'm pretty sure that the setscrew P/N 7091840 is NLA I had my weld shop make me some from setscrew I got from a farm store. HTH

I'm skeptical that the nose of the crank and the pulley that spun on the nose of the crank are much good after all of that.
