We've lost another 20" disc to a hidden stump. Disc broke off again leaving the center piece on the axle. New disc is $35 . Just wondering if broken ones could be welded back together or is that a bad idea? Thanks

bad idea... discs will have been heat treated and when you weld them, poof, HT is gone where you welded.... sadly I have 2, 18 or 20" ones here with square-ish center holes. found out NOT to put on ground like a volcano else you get scared to death with the number of snakes inside next day when you pick them up......

Sounds about right Jay, except for the snakes. Didn't think you had many up north. Thanks

If your soil is not filled with rock, and the stump was a very rear incident you may have some success with a welded blade. As jay pointed out you do lose the heat treating that hardens the blade.
Now that the cows are back in. You will have the best luck with a low hydrogen rod like 7018. Edited by Ray54 - 07 Nov 2024 at 10:42am |
