Working on a 2000 Dt466e in an International 4900. While I was laid up in april with a busted leg, it dropped an injector and they tore it apart. It sat with the injectors out for 3 months. About a month ago I put it all back together, and now the SOB won't start! I have primed the fuel system, I even filled the hpop with oil thinking maybe the HPOP wasn't priming. Nothing. It will start and run ok on fluid for 10-15 seconds but then dies. Getting a rich diesel exhaust smell and a lot of blakc/white smoke when it does fire. But it won't seem to fire otherwise. I can hear the injectors all working and I can here the lift pump cycling, I have tried swapping out the ICP switch, cam position sensor, etc no no sucess.
I'm at my wits end with this thing. Any suggestions? |

I'll second DMiller's advice. Get someone experienced with the Navistar diagnostics to come look at it or you'll just be throwing time & money at it.
But first; Recheck all wiring and connections, several of the engine sensors if not completely plugged in or a broken wire will prevent starting. We had DT444E & DT466E in our fleet about 5 years (50-70 / year) before we got any diagnostics equipment in our garages. We threw a lot of parts at them; some got fixed & some got hauled to dealer.

One LARGE Elephant in that message is ECM concerns, was there ANY welding on that truck with that batteries connected? Has there been any activities to affect the ECM connections? Do not know of IH but the Early Detroit Diesel DDEC Electronic Brains would default to ZERO if unplugged from the engine requiring a Specific Program to be ran on a laptop to reinstate the original program. Was a attempt to stop ECM remaps.
