I believe that "nuisance ads" I am getting are there with the permission of google, and MS Edge because they reflect the many new searches I do in trying to glean info on some thing or another and I AM CHIT FULL of them intruding on my searches,,,!!!
I'm now wondering of switching to say FIREFOX,,,,OR,,,,??

We use ‘Brave’ as the primary web browser. Don’t get a whole lot of ads, there are some but not horrible.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I've used Firefox for years, ZERO problems, also use Mozilla's Thunderbird email program.

I have Gmail 'email accounts' but set them up to go to Thunderbird as the Gmail 'ap' is very, very 'clumsy' for me. Thunderbird is similar to the old 'Outlook Express'. Simple and easy to use.

I probably only use 5% of their capability BUT it does what I want and need.

Currently use Firefox  for mail and Important workings, Edge and Google by themselves are a waste of good screen time.

Firefox on Windows 10 and I've had it for as long as I can remember, all the way back to Windows XP.  I believe it came out about the time of the 2000 scare.  Remember, everyones computer was going to crash....

clearing histories is easy in Firefox. I've set it up to NOT clear active logins and cookies.
That way I'm always here.... and don't need to figure out %&***%% login stuff !

Well to start things off,,,,DON'T Nobody go believing that the googles of the world don't do lots of "Looking Into" what we all do in our daily lives with our computers,,,,Cause They DO,,!!!
I did go ahead and download Firefox,,did a few searches then checked out my FAVORITES and,,,,and,,,they are not there ,,I guess MS Edge would not release them as I specifically requested they be IMPORTED by Firefox and after trying 3 different ways to import my Favs I gave up and deleted firefox. checked out several methods on youtube but NO LUCK!! My Favs are still in MS Edge,,!! Tried this same thing 3 hours later and Firefox could NOT or would NOT get my favs from MS Edge,,!   WTH,,,??
Then my GURU #3 Son shows up from El Paso for Thanksgiving and he cannot get them imported either,,!!!?? DOUBLE WTH,,,!!!
SO, until I can get my FAVS over to Firefox ,,,I'm stuck with MS Edge,,,,??

OK... you 'should' be able to SAVE(export) your favorites in MSEDGE, then ask firefox to IMPORT that file.
I know FF did that when I upgraded from outlook express to FF years ago. Never lost a fav or email address.

hay Joe, here ya go....

it should help.

Seems my problem is with outlook live now as primary e-mail address , somehow about 6 months back the number of spam e-mail has went from one or 2 a day in junk mail folder to about 30 per 12 hours .
Check mail in the AM and clear junk - read and delete unwanted , and when come back in afternoon a new 20/30 junk mail in folder .
The scam mail that package needs address to deliver from whoever, the hold on Amazon , account, Pay Pal needs update of info , ONE WONDERS WHO actually believes all the SPAM - Oh and the ones from TAX DEPT - need bank info to send special refund check owed me .
Becoming a wasteland of spam , scam , and adds to even turn on computer !

Google is a website....where you 'search' for stuff on the Internet
Firefox is a browser...a program that allows you to access the Internet

DJ, in a 'nutshell'....

When you run Firefox, you 'import' THAT file.....

RunFirefox,
then from the File pulldown, upper left corner,
select 'Import from another browser'..
..then scroll down and select MS Edge legacy......

yes, it's that easy....

Once they muscle Edge in on you it's intentionally harder to get rid of than other things. I prefer Firefox but Edge trying to load itself is doing a number on the speed of my poor old pooter. Just waiting for the mood to strike me then Edge is getting tossed.

OK, GUYS,,,I'm STILL fighting all them friggin popups,,and cannot get nuttin DONE for having to restart my searches because of them  (oi)*(&*^$^^&*()*(&^&*&^*)-popups,,,!!!!
i checked my "Control Panel) and I have #1 Google Chrome, #2 MS Edge, #3 MS Edge Web View2 runtime, #4 MS Edge web view2 runtime, #5 Mozilla Firefox (x64 en us)  #6 Mozzilla Maintenance Service. Kinda curious that Google Chrome is there without Google,,,?
Once I can get my FAVS imported from MS Edge then I want to delete (Uninstall) ALL of MS Edge from Control Panel so it does not interfere with Firefox,,,,
Sound like a good workable plan,,all you gurus,,,???

ok, Google CHROME is a web browser, allows you to 'surf the web', ie visit websites...
Mozilla FIREFOX is another 'browser', ALTAVISTA was one.....

GOOGLE is a website, think of it as a program running on a server 'somewhere on the Internet'. It's the same as www.allischalmers.com, a place you go to find  stuff

When you have Firefox 'up and running', click on Tools, then click on settings.
Under General, click 'check if firefox is default browser'
directly under that is 'import browser data', click on 'import data'.....

You can delete the MSEdge icon( shortcut). I don't know IF you can actually uninstall edge from Win10. I know it's on this PC, have never used it.

lf even half of them browsers are on your startup menu you are sitting there waiting for your computer to go bonkers then come back to it's right mind trying to get them all up and running at the same time every time you start it. On mine I couldn't find anything other than change in control panel and no uninstall for Edge but there is another way just ain't tried it yet. In my honest, humble, uneducated and probably worthless opinion download at least ad blocker plus and make double sure it's set to include every site you frequent. The only other thing I use is privacy badger and I think it's more into cookies than pop ups.

Well, Guys,,,a bit of an update on the friggin Pop-ups problem with my desktop.
I finally called Microsoft Tech dept and had a tecniition remotely check out my computer. After two attempts she was finally able to change enough to stop the popups. She noticed that I had both  Firefox and MS Edge loaded and asked me WHY? I explained about wanting to go with Firefox because MS Edge was NOT doing enough to proteck their customers with the frigging popups,,!!! Also mentioned about MS Edge tying up my favorites so Firefox could not import them to Firefox,
So, she opened the right doors to import all my favs to firefox and is what I'm running now. She sure did NOT like what I was doing with MS Edge but she was bound to do what I wanted her to do,,,,NICE,,,,,LOL
I got Firefox AND my favs so Im happy ,,,,,for now,,,,,Clap
MS Edge can go to ,,,,haides,,,,,

Glad you finally got your problems all figgered out, even if you had to go to MS for help.  MS has NEVER been anything I wanted on my pooter!  But we're stuck with it unless you got to a Mac.
Glad you're finally happy!!  Can't believe your #3 son couldn't figure it out...Maybe he's not YOUNG enough?

Great ,now here's what you MUST do !!!!!
 From your desktop...
click on windows logo, btm left...(start)
click on the 'gear' (settings)
click on 'system'
click on 'remote desktop'
click OFF 'enable remote desktop' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be 100% sure it is OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Otherwise 'bad guys' can easily access your computer , install a ransomware virus and you're in for a lot of pain !!!! It's one of the best known ,huge money making SCAMS .
