Here are a few photos from yesterday evenings test run....
Over last winter I freed up the seed box gears, made a doubler between the seed boxs as it was frail and flexing. Also Freed up the seed slide in the front box and the seed drop gears for the tinny seeds. Extreemly tedious job. This seeder sat outside and everything was rusted togeter. This seeder was headed for the scrap yard but I saved it. It dropped seed as it should. And I still have seed deflector to install.... ![]() ![]() [IMG]uploads/2474/20230728_205240.jtogether. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Macon Rounds - 29 Jul 2023 at 12:50am |

Wow! Sweet results from such an intricate rebuild. Congrats! Brillions that size go for many thousands at auctions around here!

How about bringing that to Indiana in 3 weeks to reseed about 1 acre of lawn? Just kidding - those are very handy and do a super job!

How's that work? Just sprinkle seed between rollers from the box above?

The rollers are off-set, first set makes a groove, Second roller/packers cover it up.....
Can't set the depth, just roll and go.... only thing you can control is seed application amount. I can already see inconsistent packing were rear tractor tires run and other field imperfections. Those seeds don't get covered at all. Grrrr ! We'll see how things grow. Edited by Macon Rounds - 29 Jul 2023 at 10:09am |

I've got a 10' that's newer. Works OK, but leaves some seed on top of the ground not covered at all. I think a conventional grain drill with a legume box set for very light penetration followed with cultipacker works a little better.

I think ours is 10’ but a pull type. Did well when dad used it to plant Alfalfa. It’s a heavy piece of equipment.

The newer brillions have 4 teeth per side to scratch up wheel tracks, mounted fwd of the front roller... Should be easy enough to bodge up with pipe and rake teeth.

I had some heavy tedder tines I was gonna use but
I really like the "S" shaped spring tillage shoes. I have very limited space between rear tire and seeder, so if there not silly expensive ill go that way... Was not sure my idea of spring tines were gonna work anyway. Ground packs hard with tire weight. ![]() ![]() Edited by Macon Rounds - 31 Jul 2023 at 1:07am |

When I was a kid (many, many years ago!), I remember a thing on Dad's grain drill to roughen tire tracks. It flipped down and had a hole to pin it down (or up). The mounts looked like pieces of leaf spring that had two rows of (what looked like) heavy rake teeth (like in your picture above).

Thanks
the prep work on the metal wasn't what i would do on a tractor restoration but it will keep it from rusting .... Found an axle dust/grease cap that I purchased.... And the "S" springs are $36 each so I think I'll get a piece of pipe and see if those heavy tedder springs I have will do the work of tilling up after the tractor tires... |
