I am adding a 3 pt adaptor to my D17. I have heard horror stories of the upper link breaking the housing with use of 3 pt equipment. Does this happen? Any recommendations with install of the upper link to prevent this. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Basically, just a 6 ft brush hog and perhaps a 7 ft back blade.

Sold them for 23 years and havent had a single breakage. Anythings possible, but none that Im aware of. Now if you were trying to use only the PTO shield holes, I can see those ripping out.

Top link bracket is held in place with the 3 seat plate bolts and the 2 pto shield bolts. Can’t imagine anyone just using just the 2 pto bolts? Surely no one has done that.

"Surly you can't be serious!""I am serious, and don't call me Surly". My D17 when I got it had just this arrangement. I fab'd up a proper mount that picked up on more than just two bolts. The two that were used were so badly stretched that I am surprised the threads didn't come off!!

Here's a horror story for you... This one, like most others, has a plate that sandwiches between the seat and transmission... and two bolts low on back over the PTO. I've used a rear mounted rotary mower, a 14ft disk, a pair of forks (with very heavy stuff on it), a hoisting boom, a back blade, a box scraper, a trailer-hitch/chain yoke, a log skidding yoke... a post hole digger, a single-point ripper... I've pulled, pushed, twisted, yanked, jerked dragged, lifted... I've bent the lift arms, twisted the top link, had the front end of the tractor off the ground... and the darned thing has never broken... or come loose, or sheared a bolt... and for some reason, the lousy paint job I gave it, is still mostly there. So if you build it like this one, it will likely work as well.

FWIW... My D-14s top link brackets were CNCed from a picture, they hyave 5 hole for mounting, 2 for PTO shield, 2 on top ,seat , and two on the front. No way it'll ever come off ! I had mine made with 3 sets of holes for the top link, though I've seen a single hole version.

Hey guys attaching the wishbone type conversion kit. It has a chain for sway control, but not sure how it works or gets connected. Any info, thanks.
