Howdy all, am getting ready to convert Diamond Girl to negative ground with an alternator. Whomever has already done this will a new bracket be needed or will the old one work? Same question for our 17-3. Mini Denso alt. Thanks. These are my last 2 of several conversions. Dana

Maybe look for a 170 bracket for the d17. One of the D17 's here had a ready-rod through the old gen bracket and then had to short flat irons on the ready rod with nuts on each side of them and then the upper holes of the flat irons were for the alternator. It was converted back in the late '70s.

Use a mini-sized alternator instead of an old and big Delco.

Like doc says, with the mini I took my original generator bracket and cut/welded it to hold the alternator.

Be sure to use a 1/2" width belt, which is wider than original. The OEM belt is like a rubber band and just doesn't last long or stay tight because it slips all the time on the fan pulley. The 1/2' belt sits high in the pulley but works into place nicely WITHOUT slipping and needing adjustment all the time.

I really like the looks of that mini-alternator. Since I have a couple of Delco's on the shelf that have already been rebuilt they will probably go on before I buy new.

The mini-alternator helped with the installation of the belt driven new "live" hydraulic pump.

Any alternator bracket that would work on a B,C or CA would also work on a D10/12/14/15.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Wow thanks Steveill and all! This was my seventh alternator conversion since mid January and it was a breeze. Charges perfectly. Tomorrow morn check tires, grease zerks, and put loader back on. I get my L306 delivered Monday so that’s the next restro. After that the Allis rear blade gets restro’d, then my last alt conversion (#8) on the 17 III. Cheers. Dana
