A couple of years ago we had bout a 3/16 floor added to the bath. So I dropped in the jumbo seal and all was well until 2 weeks ago. Got up off the throne and whoah my pants were wet. Turned around and noticed clear water on the floor and around the stool. Sigh, cleaned it up and ran a fan on it for 24 hrs. All was well until 3 days ago and the same thing. Then all has been well for two days. What the hey? The stool is solid as a rock on the floor. No I ain't from Texas so the drop isn't that long. ![]() Felt all around the stool and could not find any moisture above the floor. So what is your best guess? Thanx

Probably tank to bowl seal. Putting back pressure on the tank is probably making it leak, as long as no pressure, no leak. Be careful, I've seen people break the tank by over tightening the bolts, they're not supposed to be rock solid tight. Most all major box stores have the kit, new seal and bolts.

One of the bolts that holds the tank to the stool was just tight enough to do it's job. It got bumped and started leaking. I turned off the valve on the 3/8" OD pvc pipe feeding the tank. After I fixed the leaking bolt and turned the water back on, the stem seal on the valve started a slow drip. I put a small pan down to catch that drip and thought about that problem over night.
I considered using some liquid/past pipe joint, thought that would dry out and maybe mess up the seal and leak again latter. I ended up just putting a few drops of 3 in one oil on it. That stoped the leak and that was a couple days ago, and no more dripping. |

I tell people I have to pull the toilet in order to see if it is leaking from the flange/seal. If you drain all the water from the tank and bowl first it should be obvious when you remove the toilet whether it was leaking out from the flange, or something is leaking on the outside. Problem is once pulled the wax seal needs replaced no matter where it is leaking. JW may be on to something with the tank bolts, especially if there are 3 bolts, that back bolt will leak if leaned against hard enough .

That was where my last toilet leak was at the tank bolts.
