Bought a 7500w generator at harbor Freight several years ago... Backup if we ever have an electric black out... I keep it in the garage and get out and startup for 20 minutes once every 6 months..
Today was the day. Poured 1/2 gallon of gas into the tank, open the valve, choke it, pulled the rope and it started on the FIRST PULL !!... Why cant BRIGGS and others do that ?? Ran 20 minutes. Tested the 120v with the skill saw. Tested the 240 v plug on the 2 HP table saw.. Closed the fuel valve and let it run 60 seconds till it died. Sucked the rest of the fuel out of the tank and put away for another 6 months..

Honda's do it, but they cost about 2x the money! Predators are copies of Hondas...

Well,,I try to do the same as ole Steve with the two generators I have. One is a 35 year old Honda 5000 that I really like as it has the "EASY PULL" rope start that somehow multiplies the cranking rotation and IS easy to pull...You just do a steady pull and it spins that engine good. Ain't no jerking of the rope on this one. BUT ,, in getting ready for the annual Elk Hunt, I pulled on that sob till I thought I was gonna pass out,,,!! Took the spark plug out and checked the spark with my spark testor and had plenty of fire, so squirted some "quick Start" in cylinder and sob coughed a time or two but never tried to start,,,SO, I guess it's off with the carb as it ain't been off for many msny years. SO,, I drug out the Century 4000 I got from the city dump last year,,all it needed was a new pull start mechanism and it fired right up,,,BUT NOT this time!!! WTH,,,,?? Gonna try dumping the fuel in both machine first and adding new before pulling the carbs for clean out.,,,,UGH,,,!!

Steve, bet there is a 10mm drain plug on the bottom of the carb. I always take it out to get the last drop outa the carb. My leaf vac did the same thing this fall only it sat since last fall.

I got a little gas post hole digger with a 50cc 2 stroke China engine.... Very similar to a chain saw with a gear box.... It starts in 1-2 pulls after setting... I think the "PUMP" bulb on the carburetor has something to do with it.... Starts easier than my Stihl chain saw.

Funny,----got one here on a 3" water pump that wont fire a shot!! --- Bought it on an auction, paid more than I should have! ---- After checking,---it dont have spark so ignition module is probably junk,---this is a new pump/motor and only used a couple times to pump out his basement! Every body says how great they are but I know several around here that are NOT in the class with B & S , or Kohler! I have a couple more that are o.k. IF you run them every couple days,---otherwise they are hard to start. Glad you guys love yours!!!!!!!

I’m amazed at the aftermarket high performance parts they have for predators.
The yard boss at the local lumber yard has a son that races go carts with predators on them. They are fast. |

They sell the go cart engines at the local HF. Most of the time buying a new Predator is less expensive than repairing a B&S. We have the technology here but just don't have the slave labor. I'll stay off my soapbox so I won't get kicked over to the political section. Edited by Hubert (Ga)engine7 - 30 Oct 2022 at 6:50pm |

I have seen a couple of those that had a faulty low-oil switch; bypassing it gets your spark working again. |

My 35kw has a 338ci Hercules inline six... and a magneto, with impulser... and a crank. Turn on the fuel (propane), step on the crank until it CLACKS... then again... and it starts right up on the third...

I own a ~1980 vintage Troybilt Horse model rototiller that came
equipped with a Kohler 7 HP engine, it ran flawlessly for 20-some years,
then began to be hard to start. I did all of the usual stuff, carb kit,
plug, points, condenser, etc. It steadily got worse, so I replaced the
coil and it helped but then wouldn't start at all, replaced the coil
again ($90+ twice).
After a 30+ year sawmill career I went back to college, was broke and desperately needed to get the garden planted so I jumpered in an automobile coil used an old Makita 9.6 Volt battery in a total-loss system; that engine would start on the first pull and ran great until the battery went dead. This allowed me to get the garden in for about five years and also proved that the problem absolutely, positively was in the ignition system. I had replaced everthing in the ignition system twice except for the magnets in the flywheel, which are not readily replaceable. A new flywheel was ~ $400. I finally punted and bought a Harbor Freight 6.5 HP engine for $99 after having spent several times that amount on ignition parts. I truly would love to buy American but that was just prohibitive. I can now use my tiller on demand. |

I unhooked everything from the ignition,--oil switch, also the kill switch,--still no spark. Hope to get them running this winter for spring use. Busy right now logging and running the sawmill so no time to mess with them now!

I intend to mount a 6.5 Predator on Allis 5015 this winter. Have it mostly stripped down to a rolling chassis. What centrifical clutch should I use? I will be mounting a PTO driven "Seed Easy" broadcast seeder when up and running. About all I know is frame rails are 8.75 inches apart so far.

funny... amazon.ca (canada) want $500 for the HF $159(US$) engine.......... saw it has a 3/4" shaft which rules out using a rider E-PTO(1") unless you can bush it Maybe a 'gocart' centrifugal clutch ? I have both sprocket and belt versions here.... don't ask why......
