I traded for an older TS460 Stihl concrete saw.
I fixed the pull rope and eliminated the decompression valve for now. It has been sitting for who knows how long. The gas smelled good. I dumped the gas and put in new. Cleaned the air filters and changed the spark plug. It will start and run well. It picks up throttle from idle with no hesitation. I tried to cut one concrete block in half and it quit. Acted like it ran out of gas. Seemed pretty warm and the plug looked like it’s running lean. It coupled and started back up. I messed with the high and low a little and tried to cut again. Again it died. I checked sparky and it had fire. Still seemed pretty hot. What should I try next? |

i finally gave up on carb rebuilds and bought a little Chineese carb off AMAZON for $14. and installed on my STIHL............ Best $14. i ever spent !!
originally it would start up and run a couple minutes.. then choke, cough, sputter and die... Pull your arm off till it started again.. then same thing.. Rebuilt carb and it would work for 30 minutes , then same thing........... Dont know what it was in there, but the CARB is always the problem. Edited by steve(ill) - 04 Sep 2022 at 12:54pm |

If it aint the tank vent, look at the gas pickup line from carb to tank...

Bout e3very two years, I just order a new carb for my weed eater,,takes bout 45 minutes to change out and it be good for the rest of the summer,,,,

Messed with it a little this afternoon. Found the vibration would move the kill switch.
Unhooked it and it stayed running but still lean. I pulled the fuel line out of the gas tank. It had some sort of baling wire hook wrapped around the fuel line. I eliminated it and gutted the fuel filter. It now runs very well. I’ll get a new filter. |

I gutted the filter and it’s running well. Was also a kill switch problem. |

As mentioned above the fuel lines will get soft and collapse inside the fuel tank. I bet the wire is to help hold the line open and prevent it from collapsing.
