I have a WD 4 diesel with two 6 volt batteries and I'm not sure they are hooked correct. Need some help on this. Thanks

If you want to have 6 volts with DOUBLE the CURRENT, then you connect the two POSITIVE terminals together and ground them.. You connect the two NEGATIVE terminals together and run that to the starter.. ( 6 volt positive ground system). ( parallel connection)
If the batteries were connected to form 12 volts ( negative ground system)... then you GROUND one negative terminal on battery #1... you run the POSITIVE terminal of #1 to the NEGATIVE terminal on #2 battery.... you run the POSITIVE terminal on battery #2 to the starter.. so original was two 6 volt in series , or 12 VOLT.... but still Positive Ground..

Yes, positive ground and 12 volts. The D17 Diesel is that way too, two 6 volt batteries in series with positive ground.

Thanks guys for your input. My fears that my WD 45 diesel batteries were hooked up wrong was incorrect. they are just like the info you provided. Thanks, Rodney.
