OK, so my big wheeled Schumaker battery Charger looks to have crapped out on me,,,I dug out my trusty Sears Diehard the wife gave me for a Christmas a few (ahem) years ago,,,prolly more'en 47 years,,,,,Then I remembered one of the boys had dropped it and it stopped working and I figured it might be fixable,,,,Ya know,,,??
I plugged it in and sure enough it did not work, so I open it up and there were two wires dangling inside and after a long search,,I finally fount the correct wiring diagram and found where the wires went,,,plugged it in again,,,and,,,,and,,,IT WORKED!!!!! Glad I didn't listen to that little Dude on my shoulder that tried to talk me into throwing it away,,,,,,BUT,,,one of the wires that had come loose,, did so because the 8 pin slider switch had real loose pins and one of the pins had the main 12 VDC incoming on one of the pins. I opened up the switch and the slider contacts were corroded and loose in the housing SO ,,I looked in Surplus Supply, Ebay, Amazon and do not find a switch exactly like this as this one has a brass strip on the back shaped like a "Z" that ties two of the contacts together from one row of the 4 to the other row,,,,clear as mud,,,??? This one has two rows of 4 pins and one of the pins on the "Z" has the incoming 115 VAC tied to it. I've looked at a gazillion switches and nary a one has that brass strip tying two pins on opposing rows.
Possibitity of making a "12 ga wire jumper"  to tie the two pins together if the proper switch can't be found??

this is a picture ,1000 words deal....
That kind of charger is made for several companies, but Schumaker makes them all.
Probably a 6v, 12v, 12v boost 'switch' ??
If you can post the model number, I'll see if I can figure it out....
I have a 'similar' one here, got run over by forklift ( don't ask...), rebuilt he switch 10-12 years ago....

have a 'similar' one here, got run over by forklift ( don't ask...), I had to giggle on that one Jay,,,,thats the kind of chit I do a lot,,,,for some reason,,,,LOL
Yes it is the switch that changes from 2 anp to 10 amp in center posiition to 50 amp on far right position.
It is a Diehard Model 200.71222. I did re-assemble it and it did charge  on the low (2 amp) setting and the middle (10 amp) setting but would not do anything on the 50 amp setting until I jiggled the switch but don't want to leave it like that. I took some pics ,,see if I can post em,,,,,

Chit,,it kinda hard to see the brass Z that ties the #3 pin on right side to the #2 pin on left side,,,
Just so I know,,,on this multiple pin type switch,,,"Do the pins on right side have continuity with the pins on left side,,,???

If you GOOGLE  "Schumaker 3 position slide switch" ... you will see it... I believe most vendors have it as DISCONTINUE..... This is the WRONG SWITCH... only 4 terminals...

This is a timely topic as I have a charger that a slider switch that was pushed in and have looked for a new switch.
Thinking of leaving the charger inside and run wires to the outside for hookup.
They are good chargers but handling them can cause problems like pushed in switches.
Grrr!!

I looked at the ACRC site and the 8 pin switch is no longer availabe ( as also seen on several other sites)... they do have a 10 pin switch with 4 positions you could use.. might have to move a small mounting screw hole and not use 1 position.......... or you can use the BLACK switch i show above... It is used in electric hair dryers and other appliances.... but i dont see any mounting screw holes on it.

Man that's one 'sad' switch....
If you number the pins like this
1   5
2   6
3   7
4   8

the 'Z strip' is a jumper that connects pins #2 and #7 together. unless it was soldered in place, it could be a 'problem'.

The 4 pos sw could be used, just do NOT use the 2 'extra' pins.

I sure hope you took pictures/wrote down which colour wire went where.......

no that switch will not work.....poof !!

The charger switch works as follows

1st position, 1--2 , 5--6 are connected
2nd position, 2--3 , 6--7 are connected
3rd position, 3--4 , 7--8 are connected

the Z strip ALWAYS has 2 connected to 7

clear as mud, right ?

You really need a DP3P slide switch.... Double pole, 3 positions.

One possible source...

dang only $3 CDN ! Digikey is GREAT....dealt with them of decades. Se what shipping costs are, minimum order and buy enough of them to make it worthwhile. if you need to buy 7, go for it....only $20.

OK I ghosted you, they're $2.22 each, shipping $5 USPS, $7 Fedex.....
man that's CHEAP !!! I'd still buy 5 of them.....no probably 10...

cheers

Jay

Well, Folks,,,ole JayBMiller has come thru on my quest for help in finding the switch I needed for my Craftsman battery charger and I am now proud owner of 10 brand new three position, 8 pin, ON-ON-ON switches for the Craftsman  battery chargers made by Shumacher.  Ole Jay is the greatest!!  ps, the charger works like a new one!!
I want to keep 3 of them, and want to "Pay It Forward" and offer the other 5 switches to members here that also have a favorite battery charger they want to repair and keep.
If ya'll remember ole AJ,,,, Alan Demois,,(what ever happened with him?) he done that to me years ago and I have always blessed his generosity. I have had a lot of guys here help me on various projects and hope to do something for others. If anyone is interested in one,  feel free to PM me if you want one and I will send you one switch and a can or two of Black Label,,,! (joeO(mo), Steve(ill),,,How's THAT for a deal,,,,? Clap
