Morning All:   There is mention in some of the older AC books that there may have been several experimental D14's with diesel engines.  Am assuming if these were built and tested that it may have coincided wih the 175 cu. inch diesel that was used in the HD3? 

Have any forum members seen one, can someone confirm if these were in fact built and perhaps since the D14 was in place before the HD3 were these tested in a wheel tractor application, then engineering decided to use the diesel in the HD3 given the torque advantage?

Would be a nice winter project to develop a D14 diesel tractor, but then again you could just buy a D15 Diesel as an option and basically have the same tractor.

Without having a D-14 gas sitting beside an actual D-15 diesel to measure up things, I might question the possibility. The D-15 is 2 inches wider at the side frames, which makes it the same width as a D-17-19. The BD-175 engine is the same family and width/height as the BD/G-262. I'm not sure it would have fit between the D-14's narrow width?? and the hood is also 2 or so inches lower as well.

Dr. Allis:  Appreciate the excellent input.   With the lower hood that would also present a problem with the radiator.  I'll be starting a search for a D15 diesel.  I have a couple of 14's here that could serve as a test tractors.

I was more thinking the steering shaft clearing the left front corner of the engine block. With that D-14 side frames being narrower, I question that shaft position. I could be wrong, but like I say that would be a concern.

The Dr. is right.  Height will not be the problem.  Width at the bottom is the problem.  My D15 diesel hood height is about the same as my D14.  The diesel engine will not fit the torque tube of the D14 though.  The steering shaft is one thing.  I suspect the flywheel on the diesel is too large for the torque tube as well.

Their may have been some D14 "test tractors", but I would bet it was actually a D15 with the D14 black bar grille and sheet metal. Their was a video on you tube that showed it, if I can find it again I will post the link. I think there were upgrades planned for the D14 and at some point they realized that the upgrades would not work on the current frame so they changed it, and at that time changed the model to D15
