Men should be men and women should be women. For the glorious god above made them so. Farming isnt owning a tractor. You are no more of a farmer because you can drive an implement tractor around your house than I am an electrician for wiring up a light switch. I changed my post because it wouldnt let me delete it. This place, for the most part, doesnt have farmers. It has tractor boys with lawn mowers and new tractors. it is clear many of you have next to know actual farm experience. Again proving, the internet is the home to questionable opinions. No matter which way you think, it is absolutely moronic to say most farms have roll over system. Every single post is from someone talking about owning one tractor or two. I do not say this too be hostile, but as a warning to those who stumble across these forums unknowing and those posting. Go out there, live a life. This internet stuff is nothing. just video games for lonely people and desperate folks new to farming. I wish them all luck from the bottom of my heart.

I am aware of all too many Well Adept and adapted long term Very Qualified and excellent machinery use farmers that died or were crippled in Roll Overs, either from Stand Ups and rolling backward or dropping a front or rear tire into a unseen hole and rolling it sideways. Experience is not always your friend or something to be over confident with.
IF a Insurance man would happen to understand this tractor once had ROPS you removed and got injured after, could spell a loss of compensating funds. Me personally, I have but one tractor with one on. it STAYS on and cannot by any stretch be modified without losing some viability.

I would recommend you get on the Yesterday's Tractor website and place this information in the Massey-Ferguson section and be specific. Not 2600 series, but 26xx whatever exactly the model is.

Some of the smaller tractors with ROPS had them swing backward to get into low areas ? That might be a possibility.

Only my BX23 came with ROPS and I removed it about 2 1/2 years ago. same problem as you, it wouldn't fit in my garage, unless it was down and frankly it was a PAIN to raise/lower EACH time, usualyy 2-5 times a day. I welded up a 'sunshade', probably as strong as the OEM ROPS but several inches shorter. While my land is flat, neighbour's is hilly but at 68, I only go where I feel 'comfortable' and safe. ROPS is fine IF you always wear a seatbelt, I never do. It's actually off the tractor, next to the 3PH kit I've never installed..... MY main tractors are D-14s, no ROPS, no seatbelts and higher COG than the BX23S. had them for 20 years...zero problems. If you want to keep the ROPS and it doesn't fold down, can you modify one shed, or build a taller shed ? My D-14 sheds cost me $500 CDN about 5-7 years ago, they're about 9x12 and 8 feet tall, studs, plywood, tin roof. Nothing fancy, took 2 days to build. What you do and decide should probably be based on YOUR comfort level. Everyone has their opinion, but it's YOUR decision. Jay |

I can assure you a factory roll-bar will withstand a complete roll over or anything short of that BUT, if you don't have a seat belt on, you may be hurt. That is a fact.

I bought a new 61" Simplicity Zero Turn Lawn Mower, in the spring of 2013. It came with fold down a roll bar and a seat belt. The Manuel states that you should only use the seat belt if the roll bar is up.

First welcome to the site, lots of great folks on here with a wealth of information. Concerning your roll bar situation, safety first and foremost. A month ago my neighbor was moving things around in his back yard with an older tractor like a Massey Ferguson 65 with a loader. In the process one large load shifted in the bucket and the tractor rolled over, landing him in the hospital for several days after a helicopter ride to the ER. Luckily he is home now healing up from his injuries. That said you already have the ROPS off of your tractor and it is not serving a purpose in the corner. Guess not really a direct answer but know your machine's limit and use caution in whatever you decide.

OP is a real peach. I doubt gender has much to do operating ability. Neighboring dairy had there daughter cut hay with SP discbine heard the comment several times nobody could get as much done as her without smacking something. My wife is third string semi drive here little slower than the guys but does fine. Your not a gentleman your a duffus. Another thing if $1,000 makes or breaks you put your stuff on Craigslist you don’t have the financial depth to survive $1000 is one tire. If your as smart as you think you are find a way to hinge it or raise your door. A building not tall enough to fit a roll bar is pretty worthless. What about something shifting or breaking and coming down the loader arms and pinning you? Old timer few miles away had a round bale come down the loader and get him he was probably milking 100 cows then so had had plenty of experience. Nothing else roll bars are good place to mount a canopy to block the sun.

Some other thoughts to go along with what the others posted.
In my mind it is doubtful you can get $1000.00 for it. From a dealer's resale point if the roll bar missing, from a tractor originally factory equipped with one, it will likely reduce the value if you needed to sell or trade it. I have heard of some dealerships now considering tractors without the factory roll bars as scrap value only. They have to replace the bar if it had one or their insurance won't stand behind those either. If they sell one without the factory roll bar, and the purchaser rolls it and sues them, no insurance coverage. Same for unapproved modifications to a factory bar. It has happened and even if the dealer manages to defend himself and win, it cost him big time. Given a bit of experience your wife may turn into a better operator than you. I too have seen women who could handle machinery better than men. I have seen "experienced" men get in trouble because "they knew what they could do". I shake my head every time I see a guy running around with the bucket lifted as high as it can go - so they can see better. Just my thoughts, your tractor, your decision, good luck.

I'd guess the idea behind that is without the bar and being belted in place you injury could be worse held in than possibly tossed. |

Sell the tractor without altering it then, purchase something that fits in your shed and affordable.

Whatever you do, don't modify the rollbar. Drilling, welding or cutting it destroys its value, and opens you up to being liable for doing so...

One thing you can do to help keep the tires on the ground is put fluid in both the front and rear tires. Duals on the rear would also help.

My 26XL Mahindra fits in to my 8’ tall garage doors with the ROPS fully extended. If it did not, its a matter of pulling 2 pins and folding it down. If your too lazy to do a 30 second change then I would sell everything and move to the city. I can tell you this, I’ve had my loader full of rock dumping into our F700, slight incline and things can get a little harry in no time. I’m glad it has a roll bar and I am an experienced operator. No way would I have put my wife on it to do the same task. As a matter of fact, I have since made myself seek more level ground to prevent a 3 wheel lift. If its never happened to you, count yourself lucky. It will scare the hell out of you. I have both rear tires loaded. Your making a huge mistake if you remove it. Sorry to sound harsh, but safety has no excuse, if you love your wife change your building not your ROPS!

We have 2 tractors with roll bars. One of them folds, one of them doesn't. The one that folds is on a tractor that we bought new, and like a couple of others said, it says roll bar up - seat belt on, roll bar down - seat belt off. Like suggested, better off trying to bail off in that case.
Also interesting on the liability and such: the tractor we have that doesn't fold was supposed to be our primary barn cleaning loader tractor, and the bar doesn't fit under the one area. The DEALER told us how to cut, pin, modify the bar into a folding one. Strange. I get how/ why you have an extra concern and care for your wife, it doesn't make you a "duffus" or a peach, just probably a bit illogical. No way you'd get close to $1000 for a roll bar, just my opinion. If you need to get some cash, I'd look at selling your tractor and getting something cheaper with a folding roll bar as a first choice, or one without a roll bar if you can stomach the thought, OR perhaps the best idea, sell a couple cows and try again? Cow prices aren't horrible right now.

The idea is when you start to rollover the operator is to try and jump away to safety when the rollbar is down.

Removing that fold-down type roll bar on that new of a tractor will probably hurt your resale value of the tractor waaaay more than whatever you get out of it. It might even be illegal to remove it and try and resell the tractor without it.

To the original poster—- farming defined in my mind is using the land for producing crops or raising any livestock to make a profit. This site is a mix of Allis Chalmers enthusiasts being; collectors, professional AC mechanics, dealers, farmers, and a few pullers. Folks on this site educate, support to the best of their opinion based on past experiences. If you need specific farming advice and not satisfied with the opinions given, there are many forums available with your google search. Best of luck, Kevin

It's clear we have another keyboard warrior here looking to start a fight, we are not the type of people on this site to be hostile towards one another so I would highly recommend if your looking to start a fight on who's a 'real' farmer or not why don't you go over to the red power magazine site and bring up politics you will be surprised how far that gets you. Best of luck.

To be honest, looked to me like his OP, (before he changed his OP) did not start any fights, rather it was Mr. Victory who started the nastiness. MR. OP has since completely edited his initial post, to where now the whole thing is a fight. So ya, maybe just a weird spammer as suggested.
