I see many Lucas replacement starters for the 185’s. Are these worth using or should I stay away? We have many 185, XT, 200, 7000 series so I’ll buy a new one and rebuild the dead one. Opinions needed y’all! Thanks, DANA

On a 1 to 10 scale, a Lucas is a 5. When they are new, they work pretty good. They just don't seem to last like a good old Delco. JMHO.

There's a pretty good difference between an original Lucas vs a Chinese knock-off replacement/copy.  An original Lucas, rebuilt correctly, should out-perform a Delco according to the starter shop that rebuilt mine some years ago.  They are more expensive to rebuild than the Delco starters though.  If I did it over again today, seeing starter shops are getting more and more rare, I'd probably buy a new gear reduction starter.

News Flash. I just bought a brand new Delco starter from Sandy Lake for $311. Now I’ll rebuild the old Delco to have on hand. What a deal! Dana
