Heard a little bit ago Ford customers buying new electric vehicle were really missing one thing - the gasoline smell - so they have a device that sells with the car to give you that fraquice- I swear ,,,,

How about a solo cup 1/2 full of gasoline in the cup holder. More realistic. 😳

@DougG; That doesn't surprise me. 15 or 20 years ago I was at GM training at about the time the EV idea was starting to really gain traction and the instructor told us then that in the test vehicles, customers complained that they missed the "sounds" of the engine/transmission. So GM's answer was to install a sound card or MP3 player or whatever it was "synched" with the accelerator pedal/shifter to mimic the sounds that they were used to. It's interesting how we are such creatures of habit and anything out of the ordinary we find disturbing or unseemly.

Silence is deadly....had a story on the radio about a guy who programmed his Tesla to say "Bruh" in that just right millennial half asleep careless way.  Elon is weird, buy he has a sense of humor.

Engine sounds aren't all good either.  The V10 Viper sound was so hideous, they had to electronically and acoustically alter and enhance the sound to make it more pleasing.

I'll stick with a V8 or 6 if I have to, nicely in the middleSmile

Fords have "fake" engine noise, why not "fake" gasoline smell? Or even "fake" catalytic converter smell? Maybe the name circled on the grill will now be FAKE Wink
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

Thats PEANUTS... Try 2.5 MILLION and SUED several times.. and STILL PAYING.

  • General Motors has reached a preliminary settlement in a lawsuit on behalf of owners of vehicles with faulty ignition switches and related defects, agreeing to pay $120 million.
  • The class-action lawsuit claimed loss of residual value in owners' vehicles because of the defect.
  • GM has recalled more than 2.6 million vehicles from the 2004 through 2014 model years, and 124 deaths were reported because switch failure could cause vehicles to stall.

General Motors has agreed to pay $120 million to settle more claims that its deadly ignition-switch defect caused car owners economic harm, according to a settlement filing on Friday in New York City's U.S. District Court.

. The settlement names 216 plaintiffs who had owned some of the more than 2.6 million cars with the defective ignition switches, along with other GM cars recalled in 2014 for faulty power steering and side airbags that would not deploy in a crash, according to the filing. It addresses economic harm due to resale, repairs, and other related losses due to the defect. It is unrelated to the $625 million settlement fund that GM initiated in 2014 to pay for 124 deaths and 275 injuries. It is also unrelated to a settlement in 2015 that paid $275 million for more than 1380 death and injury claims that were not part of the compensation fund.

More lawsuits are coming against Ford and their ecoboost engine

A big class-action lawsuit has been filed against Ford Motor company over its EcoBoost engine. Taking in cars produced from 2013 to 2019 it alleges engine coolant is leaking into cylinders.

YEP... when i was a kid it was a miracle if a motor or transmission ran 100,000 miles .. Remember grandpa saying that in the 1920s  they would pull the oil pan on the cars and check main bearing clearance every year as part of "general maintenance"...

Dad use to say "THEY DONT BUILD THEM LIKE THEY USE TO "................. YEP... they use to be junk !!

when your building 1000 cars PER HOUR it would be hard to get EVERYTHING right.

--in the 60s is was not uncommon to have a new car with a door gap of 1/8 inch on one side of the car and over 1/4 inch on the other side.
--we bought a new Pontiac in 1965, and on the way home stopped at the hardware store and got a  aluminum pan and a box of kitty litter to soak up the oil when the motor leaked.
--my job was to replace the brakes on the pontiac wagon every 16,000 miles.. undersize as they were the same ones on the impalla.
--dont even ask how long the nylon bias tires lasted !

Tires nowadays are AMAZING!  Do the math on price /inflation/ buying power / miles lasted etc.  I remember mom talking about how many spare tires they would take on a trip of any length.

Everyone needed to know how to do a valve job.

4 cylinder cars....."Won't last.  Has to make too many revs and each cylinder doing too much work, etc. "  Well, I have a 4 cylinder car.  I don't love it, but I was in a real crunch when I got it.  Has 190,000 miles on it, still smooth and quiet, gets 31.5 mpg.  Oh, and I've never done a valve job on it!

Unless the toe links on Explorers has changed again, that recall is old news. We had ours done a few years ago.
The 1.5 Ecoboost engine is garbage. The heads crack internally and externally. My professional opinion is that they totally screw the tech time wise for the repair. I also firmly believe Ford does not fully test and develop new engines/features/technologies anymore. They have to pay engineers to do that. Why do that when they can just use the customer for that. When the warranty claims mount, they just cut the time paid to the dealer and tech while in many situations they come up with the fix. Like I said, these are my observations/opinions over the years as a dealer tech...
