Looking at a 200 coming up for auction. Few questions.   Was talking to some people one says they have live pto one says no so that’s one question. Also how on fuel wanting to square bale hay. Anything to watch for other than normal wear items

Hydraulic PTO was an option, so it can be had either way. They are easy on fuel compared to other 105 ish hp tractors. Nice baling tractor, would prefer power shift if available.

It is live pto to an extent. They have a hi and lo range power director that can be shifted to hi and lo on the move. If you go half way, that is neutral. So as long as you don’t push in the main clutch pedal the tractor will stop and the pto will continue to run. The 190XT and 200 is my favorite series tractors although I love all AC’s lol. They are an excellent bailing tractor especially on square bales. They have a lot of power and are very fuel efficient.
As far as things to look for put it in each gear in hi range and go down a hill and throttle back. Hopefully it won’t jump out gear. If folks abused shifting the transmission when the tractor was moving it would eventually damage the gears and cause it to jump out of gear. Expensive to repair.

a 200 does not have true IPTO ( independant Power Take Off), regardless of if it has hydraulic engaged PTO or not, IF you push clutch pedal down PTO will stop. To get around this AC uses the power director w/ neutral position so ground drive quits and PTO continues to operate. 
I'm not sure of early 7000 model but larger 70xx models have true IPTO, you push down clutch pedal IPTO continues to run. I currently own and have for 40+ years ; 180, 185, 200. Had a 7000, someone offered me too much $$ so I sold it. 
In My Opinion, IF I was looking for tractor in 100+ HP it'd be a 7000, 7010 or 7020. Also have nicer hydraulics.

Manual PTO engagement used a long lever to the left of the seat. The hydraulically-engaged PTO is engaged by a smaller lever to the right side of the seat, near the rear of the console.

The only advantage of the hydraulic PTO (an option) is that is can be engaged/disengaged  on-the-go. If you depress the foot clutch, it still stops PTO rotation. You must use the hand clutch (Power Director) to have the PTO to be considered "live".

Guess I’m having trouble determining what is so bad about the Allis power director/PTO set-up. Seems like the best option to me as you can feather engaging PTO with the clutch or just engage on the move and the director is smooth without the jerk of the 185’s. I only wished the 200 had more speeds to choose from a selected gear.

My XT has the hydraulic pto , power director allows ease of ground speed. For a 1968 and no computers to go bad I’m perfectly happy. Well, a cab and AC would be nice. Guess the umbrella will just have to do.

I am with you Allisbred, grew up with a 190 180 baling hay (square bales then)  as a kid  I have baled over 200 round bales with my 200 in a day with the powerdirector arrangemenOnce you understand how it works you can be very proficient with it.  Is it as nice as a powershift tractor with live pto, no but it will b a lot less money to buy and maintenance is all simple mechanical linkages and hydraulic valves to actuate

Mine has a factory cab with Hydraulic PTO, last year they made them.   Very easy on fuel compared to the Oliver I used to have. The lever for the Hydraulic PTO is down beside the right hand side of the seat. Sorta behind you. With my dang bad back it was hard for me to get to. I added a couple of pipe elbows and lengths of 1/4" pipe to bring the lever up closer to the seat. Baling hay you will probably use 2nd or sometimes in light hay you might use 3rd gear. Make sure it doesn't jump outta those gears. Have fun with it. I gave $6500.00 for mine. It starts and runs great.
