I have a Series 3 D 17 Diesel with a bad starter. Not a good problem to have, I take it. I have found a couple of very expensive remans. I have the starter apart and a new drive would get it back together and operable. This is the DelcoRemy 1113152 heavy straight drive 3 bolt flange, solenoid remote of the starter. Looks as though the earlier models had a starter mounted solenoid. I would guess the mounting and drive would be the same ?
Is it possible to convert to this style ? anyone know of a source to either buy a new drive or is it possible to have the drive rebuilt ? One thing I do know in either case this will not be cheap, would like an option to the full reman route. The starter motor components are in decent shape. as always I appreciate your input.

Either will work. Earlier Delco was 1113082

Make sure the bushing in the nosecone is good. I had to replace mine Years ago. 2 years ago I took it to the local starter rebuild shop. They cleaned it up, put a Bendix on it, and it worked great. I don't know where they got the Bendix. Does that have a different number of teath than the early ones?

Thanks for the replies so far. 10 teeth on the drive. I have it apart and the adaptor with the bushing is in rough shape as well as the drive itself. The drive is a Bendix brand with no numbers.  The rest is in decent shape. If I can find  a new drive and repair the bushing/housing in the adaptor I can likely put it back together and get by. Would prefer a complete reman but may not be practical as everything I have found on the web has turned out to not be available.

Update
I have found a 1113082 which is the early starter. If this will fit, the solenoid will need to be directly on the bottom ? There is very little room between the top of the starter and the manifold air intake tube. Has anyone made this switch. It will also require some cable and wiring reconfiguration it appears ?
