Just wondering if the 56F was the only AC chopper made. Does anyone know if there was a newer version made? What years were they produced? Thanks!

AC forage harvesters were 50, 780, 782, 720, 56. no weights listed, that I could find in Norm's nook...

we have some parts left. The one was at a farm just across from us and had auction long time ago and it didn’t sell lol, me and dad drug it up to farm. We sold it to a guy a while after that, he said he was going to try to fix it up.
I thought it was heavy

The 56F operators manual I have lists shipping weight at 2430lbs. 15lbs for the hydraulic lift attachment and 40lbs for 16" tires, tubes and rims.

Thanks for the replies Gentlemen! I saw one yesterday, the guy quoted a price, which i thought was way to high. It has been sitting outside long enough so I can't see what it looks like underneath without lifting it up with a loader. Would anyone know the production years?

My grandfather had a brand new one. They were better than the Deere,New Holland and Gehl machines as they had much more suction. Dad said when mowing corn stalks they would often pick an ear of corn off the ground. I have owned two that I sold but never used them. Tom

There is no date on the manual and the dealer info is blank. Someone did write the serial number on the cover page as #R1654
|

Thanks for the replies! Are there any noticeable differences between the 56 and 80? Is there a serial number tag on these cutters? The flail chopper must be kind of a rare item, as I don't recall ever seeing one before, especially around here.

Howdy DCAC, I had two 56F fail choppers. Yes parts hard to find only way I found parts is get another machine. Big problem with them is if not used much the knifes would freeze up on the shaft. I got one of the 56f machines to free up with heat but it was a tough going. First time I used the 56F I put my D15 on it. Not enough power so put my AC 185 on it and worked great! I restored one fully. If you want pics send me your email.

Dad had one, and as a teenager, I green-chopped alfalfa and standing oats using a series 2 D-15 pulling a feeder wagon behind the chopper. Wagon left for the dairy cows to eat out of and refill it again the next day with the D-15. The 56-F did not like rocks and the arms certainly did rust tight to their mounting shafts.
