There's a post on AT about bearing checking/ replacement on the separator side of a machine (the guy is looking at a JD 9600) and a respondent said 2000 hours was the "replace/trade off" time frame for his operation Ermm . I really thought bearings lasted a little longer than 2000 hours Embarrassed ?? What have you guys experienced with bearing longevity ?

80% of all bearings fail due to lack of lube / dirt.

another 10% fail due to miss alignment / install damage.

VERY FEW fail from being overloaded or end of life.. Most bearings are DESIGNED to run longer hours.

I cant speak for that SPECIFIC bearing, but in "GENERAL", ........

Ag equip is designed for 5,000 hours ... ( some applications could be half that)
light duty cars / trucks are designed for 2,500 hours
industrial equip ( factory) is designed for 20,000 hours

alot of combine bearing fail because the owners/operators power wash them.

Steve is spot on 👍 A bearing will last for nearly ever if it has clean grease and not misaligned,... and no water😀.

I have no issues with the replies that Steve posts on the equipment/shops-barns-vehicles sections  and I have great respect for them,Wink !! He's a straight shooter in those regards !!!

Depends mostly on lube and load. we rarely rear walker shaft bearings, but usually end up replacing left fan shaft bearings on L/M series.

On machines stored outdoors, a shot of teflon infused penetrating oil really helps to limber up an old bearing.
Gleaner: the properly engineered and built combine.

All depends on maintenance. Maybe guy had bad experience once and in his mind replacement during off season is better than down time during harvest.
