I have a homemade snow plow for my C that uses the factory hydraulics to lift the plow. Not being able to lift with the trans clutch pushed in isn't ideal. This has caused me to ask the question, what is the first similar sized AC tractor with hydraulics that would allow me to lift the plow with the trans clutch pushed in?

I believe the CA is what you would be looking for, although the WD also has the live PTO.
You could also look at adding a pump at where the hand crank goes for hand starting your C.

If its 12V you could get a electric over hydraulic unit to raise and lower the plow.

I think the answer to your question would be the 720 in ‘73. It has about the same hp but is a hydro. As for actual “power” comparison I would say the 5020 when taking into consideration the torque and to get a gear transmission. They came out in ‘77
The wd and ca don’t have true live hydraulic. They have a hand clutch to stop power after the trans and hyd pump. The question you asked made me think about it a bit and had to reference tractor data to confirm!

I'm with Gary, buy/install a 'snowplow pump' unit. Up here about $300 when on sale. Makes for a clean,easy install , reliable,easy to use. Has to be cheaper than buying another tractor that has 'live' hydraulics and installing your blade onto it. Your C will need to be 12 volt, alternator and a GOOD battery ( 2 is better).

The D10 & D12 tractors had true Live hydraulics starting in 1961.

electric add on is probably the cheaper route.. But im with Paul... D10 - 12 or would be very nice unit.

I have a 720 with a loader that I like, and like said it has a hydro transmission, it also has a cat-0 3-point. It's classed as a garden tractor, and has an air cooled engine.

You'd probably be happiest with a 5020, but you're better off to stay away from the 4wd version. The front drive seems to be a weak link and parts are not available. A 5020 with ag tires and chains would do what you want but like any other tractor used for what you want, would need some rear ballast. Loaded tires or wheel weights.

If you’re satisfied with the way the C works the plow other than live hydraulics, just add live hydraulics. You can get an electric set up as suggested here or put a pump up front at the hand crank location, or add a power steering pump from an older Chevy and run it off the engine. I’ve seen it done, by double pulley on alternator or remove generator and mount there, and just keep battery charged when not in use. A good 12 volt battery will start and run that C a very long time without being charged every day.
Or I agree with a 1961 D-10 or 12.
I have a 61 D-10 with live hydraulics and it is a lot handier than a C and a good bit more horsepower also, and a lot of them came with 3 point hitch which is nice now a days and could put a back blade on it.
