Happy holidays to everyone. Currently i have my 190xt torn down and doing an inframe overhaul. After doing some searching i found a source for a pow'r seal kit through my agco dealer so i am excited for that to show up. I was not wanting to use a reliance kit but for a while that's the only option i was finding. When i pulled the turbo off i notice some shaft end play which i know is of concern. I also noticed the crossover tube and intake manifold seem oily inside. However the compressor side of the turbo doesn't seem oily at all, but maybe they won't show oil if leaking. So i am wondering what's the best source for replacement turbos? I do pull this tractor in farmstock occasionally so i was thinking of looking for a turbo from a 7020/m3 which sounds like has a little more boost with a smaller exhaust housing. Are there any other bolt on upgrade turbo options? I don't want something I've got to do any fab work to mount and i want to use the factory exhaust hole in the hood. Thanks

What turbo do you have now? Rajay or Air Research (Garret).
If it is Air Research it is a TO4B. The are all the same with different size housings to give the A/R ratio for each. The Rajay can be replaced with the TO4B but oil lines are different. Some end play is normal. As long as the is no radial play or leaking it is OK.

Lightly move shaft in all directions and see if you can scrape housing with wheel.

Sorry forgot to say it's a T04 air research. It's a series 3 xt. It doesn't touch the housing, but was more concerned if it's leaking oil.

I really doubt you have a turbo issue. I can't explain the "oily" downstream but know what you're referring to. Can't hurt to "upgrade" turbo anyway.

An S200 is a fantastic upgrade for the 301 that will be tuned up for farming and occasional pulling. It takes some fabrication to fit, but well worth it to get a modern turbo on it. No engine rebuild is complete without turbo, injectors, injection pump, water pump all belts/hoses replacement. Just my worthless opinion lol! Happy new year!

Well i actually have must of those items taken care of. I bought this xt in 2017 with a bad engine. I found an engine that was used, was told it starts kinda hard but runs good and it had a rebuilt injection pump on it. So before i shoved it in i did the rear seal, new bearings and new water pump. I have also done the injectors a couple years back and put 7080 nozzles in it. My pump is good, but may have to send it to you ed to get some more fuel to those 7080 nozzles. When i turned it up i could only get about 1/4 turn on the leaf spring. The injection pump they put on it is actually a 185 pump according to the numbers so I'm wondering if it still has some shims under the leaf spring. It has good power and does pretty good pulling but the 4020's are starting to catch up to the xt.

no shims, just smaller leaf spring. It has to be taken apart to make alterations.

Did all of that and more to mine a few years ago. Not sure what turbo is on it. Got a pile of $$$$$ into it, but shouldn't have to do it again in my lifetime. I haven't worked it real hard since the big re-build. Did pull a couple hills with it with a hay wagon behind it with 11 big round bales on it. Belched out some black smoke and kept on it's way like nothing behind it. Darrel |

I’ve been looking for a candidate for my 2800 to 2900 rebuild. Which S200 setup do you recommend?
