I just got a PTO for my B Model.

I was under the impression that it ran off the rear differential.  I though the tractor had to be moving for the PTO to turn.

I just saw a video of the PTO running while the tractor was in neutral.   I have not installed mine yet.  Is this possible or was there something else going on?

Thanks

Thanks, that answers my question.  I was told it was hooked into the final drive, that made no sense. I don't have anything that uses PTO, but having it on the tractor is a start.

The TOP SHAFT in the transmission is connected to the motor clutch..it runs all the way thru the transmission to the PTO ..... When the MOTOR is running and your FOOT is off the clutch, the PTO turns... ( assuming you have the PTO lever engaged) .. You can be in neutral or in any gear.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Welcome to the form.  Delighted to have another member from New Zealand.  Many years ago - in the late 90's - I became familiar with a form member from New Zealand.  He sent me an orange Allis Chalmers cap with New Zealand embroidered above the adjusting strap from an Allis Chalmers show he had.  This cap has been proudly displayed in my office ever since I received it.
Also, you have obtained my favorite Allis Chalmers tractor, the B.  With my father, who was an Allis Chalmers dealer we sold the B for the life of the unit. Thank you for keeping the name alive.
You will find this form to be very helpful.  Any questions you have do not hesitate to ask.
Good Luck!

"the PTO will run when the tractor is in neutral and when the tractor is moving the PTO will stop when you put your foot on the clutch the PTO on the allis B is not a live drive PTO" so a live drive is; once engaged, will always run until a lever disengages it? no matter if it's in gear driving, in neutral idling or running with the clutch in and in gear?

Hello

Oops, my question follows the quoted question from above. New to this and recently acquired a "B" and a WD45

LIVE means if the motor is running and the lever is engaged, the PTO is running... even if you push the motor clutch in.  Clutch and transmission are not part of the  PTO drive.

Older version like the B.. main clutch has to be engaged , THRU the transmission to the PTO and the PTO lever has to be engaged.. Transmission can be in gear or neutral.. BUT the MAIN CLUTCH has to be engaged ( foot off the pedal).
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I've always assumed that "Live" was separate from tractor motion.  Independent is separate control from the transmission clutch IE: the PTO has it's own actual clutch.
