Did KINZE make a 4 row planter in their beginning, or were they already tooled for the larger 6 row plus machines ? I've never seen many Kinze's in our area to begin with, and those are 12+ rows

I believe Kinze did make 4 row planters. I had a New Idea 4 row, double frame that came new with Kinze planting units. It was a heavy built planter that I pulled with a 6060. I had interplant units for 15 inch beans.

The way I remember the story Kinze was building big tool bars, and putting JD planters unit on them. JD did not have a compareable tool bar as for folding and not breaking, so had there shorts in a wad. Stopped or slowed how many units Kinze could buy. So Kinze built his own planter units. Then the legal war started.

Kind of off topic, but (if you haven't read it before) Google "Kinze verses John Deere lawsuit" for some interesting reading about how a small company took on John Deere in court.

Wouldn’t call Kinze a off brand planter rather anything but Kinze and Deere are off brands.

We have a 4 row Kinze 3 point. Bought it to replant with. Just wasn’t much demand for the 4 rows so they are rare

Thank you very much Mike and 7060 (all of you for that matter) for their picture and description of your personal platers !! Never dreamed Kinze offered a fully mounted planter LOL!! Dad said he started out farming in '65 with a 4 row fully mounted MF planter. How were they "driven" BTW ? Dad can't recall

Most planters back then were ground driven by the closing wheels. If you enjoy reading, Kinzenbaw wrote an autobiography entitled " Fifty Years of Disruptive Innovation." He tells of his childhood and how he got his business started. The lawsuit with Deere was fantastic. Kinze is number two in the planter market. I'm
