what was the idea with the rear axle spacers? For row crop?
between the the axle housing and diff. housing. (if you in large the picture you can see them better)
I've seem them in the parts book just never knew what there purpose was.

I have a Series II D15 with them, it has 28" rubber on the back, I assume they were needed to keep the tires from hitting the fenders when spun all the way in. The tractor also has a factory narrow wide front...
I also had a D17 with 38" rears that had spacers on the back, possibly for vegetable work
