Hi All. I have B69938 which makes it a 1944 I believe. I have been trying to figure out the correct hood transfer decals. Apparently, there are three different designs; blue, black with long A&S and black with even letters.
A couple of sources that I have seen indicate that the blue design was used up to 1944, but I have also seen up to 1948. Then I have seen that the black design with the long A&S is used from 1944 onwards. My 1944 B seeps to fall possibly in the middle some where? Not too sure about when the black with the even letters was used. After 1948 maybe? Can anyone please tell me the correct decals for my tractor? Thanks.

I’m not quite sure but I have seen several pre 45 specifically war time 42-44 as part of our war time old man club lol and all had blue with the long letters. If 44 was a transition year yours being serial number in the 69 thousands puts it at the end of the 44 run as 45 models came out with serial number 70 thousand something I believe 70210
1944 B tractors started with serial number 65500 don’t wuote me but around there. |

Hi All.
I have been hunting for quite a while to figure out the proper correct decals for my 1944 B. I have found several sources but they all seem different and contradictory. The Tony's Tractors suggestion from Boss Man earlier says Blue from 39-48. Steiner says Black with long A&S from 39-44. OK Tractor says Black with short A&S from 41-57. There are lots of other sources that offer all three styles without specifying any years. I guess I am looking for a tie-breaker. I am leaning towards using the Blue set but I am willing to bet that someone will tell me I am wrong at the first show I go to. Can anyone tell me the correct decal set that the tractor would have had from new? Is it possible that all three types were used randomly? Thanks. |

Contact the Lyle Wacker family. They are highly recommended for getting the correct Decals. https://www.oocities.org/wackerdecals/ |

You know, with my father I was pleased to sell the B for the life of the unit.
Yes, I remember the blue long A & S, the black, and the others but don't ask me exactly when they came out. I don't remember I do like the blue with the white outline the best but cannot be correct as to what you should have. Good Luck! Bill Long |

I wished I seen this sooner before I left home with the truck but I have a book at home titled "Original Allis Chalmers" or something like that. Been awhile since I looked at it. Can't even remember author but anyway,he showed the original blue prints from factory for correct placement of decals and which ones were used on the "letter" series tractors. 12 years ago when I painted our '45 C, book did say black with long A & S from '44 on. Sorry I can't say what serial this happened without book to verify. Good luck

Hi All, As suggested by Gary and Lonn earlier, I contacted the Wacker Family and spoke (Via email) with Steve Wacker. According to him, the Blue decals with the long A&S were used until sometime in 1947, then the Black with long A&S until sometime in 1948 and the Black with straight letters were used after that until the end of production.
Steve says that he has heard of original 1948 models with the Blue and original 1947 models with the Black, so he believes that there was some overlap during production depending on what was available. I guess my '44 B will get the Blue decals, unless anyone else has other information. I would like to hear from 37alliswc when you are able what is the book you referred to and what it has to say. I have the Allis Chalmers Farm Tractors and Crawlers Data Book by Terry Dean, which I find very good. It indicates that the decals are Blue until 1948, then Black, but no indication of long or short letters. Thanks.

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner. I just checked in Original Allis Chalmers book and the B & C models started with blue long A & S until black long A & S were designed in January '44. The straight black lettering didn't start until 1950 and the model decal on shroud didn't come along until June '51. If you have Norm's book, look at picture of first WD to come off line in '48. Long A & S decal and no model decal. So,it appears you have a later 1944 model that gets the black long A & S and no model decal if you want to get original as possible. Hope this helps and please post a picture when you are done. Good luck and God bless

Thanks a lot, but Man, I thought I had it figured out and I was ready to use the blue decals. Maybe I will put a blue one on one side and a black one on the other side.
![]() I would like to get a copy of both the Guy Fay book and the Norm Swinford book, but I think they are both out of print and it looks like used ones are close to $200 each. Maybe I will put them on my Christmas list. I guess that's what happens when the antique iron age crashes into the computer age.

That decal plan would work too. Can't look at both sides at the same time anyway! LOL. But ya,I got Guy Fay book at Symco,WI Thresheree a few years back for $30 and got Norm's book at Niemuth Implement in Stetsonville,WI about same time I think for $45. I was floored to see what the price is now. It would be nice if they could reprint them.
