AC 6000 Series Good?

We’re the AC 6000 series good tractors? Were they updates 200 series tractors or something new? Did they have issues jumping out of gear like the older AC tractors? How’s the parts situation?

What was the good, bad and ugly of these tractors and would they make a good haying tractor?

Very good tractors and no they are not updated 200 series. They were all new, synchronized transmissions, engines, all new design. No gear jumping issues that I have ever heard of. Our 6060 has only had a clutch/pto clutch replacement 2 years ago, pump rebuild a few years ago. It’s a 1981 model so it’s been very reliable. Only issue are the front thrust bearing that is caused by improper use of the pto temporary disconnect lever. AC later came out with a thrust bearing support that was added by dealers but not all dealers notified customers. Our 6060 does not have the support and it is no longer available from AGCO. Has not been an issue as we have always properly operated the disconnect lever.
Powerful 4 cylinder turbo diesel that when maintained properly should provide 10k hours before rebuild.

The 6000 series is a Fiat  tractor with the same engine that is in the Gleaner combine.  We have a 6060 and I like it.  The 6070 and 6080 were the same tractor with more HP and a 12 speed trans, the 6060 has a 8 speed trans.

Well, they are a really good haying tractor, leaps and bounds better than my 190XT? I beg to differ. The hydraulic pto is a far better on my XT than the quick disconnect pto on our 6060. Not having live pto isn’t a problem utilizing the power director on my XT. Having the extra weight of the XT gives more sure footing when on hills with a large load of hay behind the baler. The 3 point on my XT is easier and less touchy to use than on the 6060. I really enjoy using both tractors baling, each have their strong points. The 6060 is much quieter than my straight pipe XT but I love hearing the 6 cylinder turbo out the straight pipe.
