 Topic: Miller/Moth ??

What is the "main" difference between the 2 ? A co-worker brought in a specimen on a paper plate that was flopping/dying on his porch last night that has a wing span of an adult mans open hand. It had/has BEAUTIFUL colors/patterns on the wings, but not a Monarch butterfly-type looking wings either (this creature was larger than a Monarch  ). Sadly, I'm too tired/hot this evening to delve into "google", thought perhaps someone on "here" knows from memory  . Thanks

A Miller is what my Grandma called a moth. Didnt know there was a difference.
Tomato horn worm moth is a big boy. As wide as my hand anyways. Like a small bird. Wakes you up when one bounces off the shield of a motorcycle helmet I assure you.

I haven't heard anyone refer to a "Miller" in a VERY long time! Wow, that brings back a memory. Probably 70's. . .

Tomato Horn Worm Moth Cecropia Moth Grew up with both of these at the farm.

Mom always called the small ones like get into ground feed, etc. miller moths.

Thanks for the pictures !! The bottom one has very similar markings as the one on the "plate" LOL!! It was quite a beautifully colored creature .

Pulled one of those horn worms off a tomato plant yesterday. Was supposed to rain or I would have dusted them. They will get some today. Those stupid worms will destroy the crop if you let them.

One big one 4"-5" wing span is our Luna Moth. Mostly see them around the lights at night. Some More of Our Flighties
