I changed oil for hydraulics/transmission/differential in the D12 yesterday. Found metal shavings on the drain plug. Hope the picture posted. This is my first attempt to post a picture. Any thoughts on metal shavings? Should I be concerned? Should I investigate further? Where to start? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Looks like  chips from gear grinding. If not noisy just use it. Is this new to you or been around forever.

I bought it around 1988 give or take a year or two. I have not been very diligent about changing the hydraulic oil. It leaks a little and I am constantly adding. I can’t tell where the leak is located (or maybe more than one). My constant adding was my reasoning behind not changing more often. Probably not good reasoning.

You didn't know the difference till you pulled that plug. Like said,looks like sharp edged chips from clashing gears shifting. Doesn't look like bearing metal. I'd refill and carry on if not making noises.

Thats what the magnetic plug is for...... to grab all the little pieces of crap and keep them from going thru the system... Depending on how old the oil is ( you had it 22 years) ... the original owner might not have changed it either... Could be chips from grinding, or just wear in from sharp edges.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
