I have a couple silly questions about the WD Ammeter box.

1. I noticed that the box needs to be "in a certain position" so that it charges correctly. I never pull the charger knob out unless it's half way to run the lights. I just let it charge at the 3amp rate. Sometimes though, I need to "touch the box" correctly so that it works (charges). I'm guessing it must need to be grounded correctly to make that happen?

2. I also noticed at the base of the box on the left hand side there is a small hole. Perhaps for a bolt or screw to be attached? Maybe if I did that, I wouldn't have to "touch" the meter box anymore so that it would charge correctly.

Yes there is supposed a screw in that hole. I don't remember for sure but I think that it was a machine screw. Maybe an 8 or 10-32. It might have been brass.

Yes, that ammeter box needs to be grounded, use a short #8 machine screw, lockwasher, and nut tight in that hole to ground it.  But first use emery cloth or sandpaper on both sides of the hole to remove rust and paint.  Do not use a sheet metal screw there!  How do I know!!!

It sounds like it doesn't have a good ground. 

Have you thought about replacing the cut out with a voltage regulator? I changed one od my WD45's and I will eventually change all the ones that I have that are 6 volt.

The original screw is only about 1/4 in long
