Gentlemen,
I am finishing up freshening my old CA and have a few questions. 1. I can't seem to find the recommended SAE20 oil. 2. What should I run in the PTO, Lift Cylinder Hydraulic pump, etc? 3. Serial number says CA 4249. Can anyone tell me how this relates to the model year? Thanks again, this forum has been very helpful!

1952 on the serial # per Tractor Data. Most any Universal Tractor Fluid, but others will have specific brands they prefer and will tell you why.

The CA hydraulic system is very basic and does not require a specific hi quality oil.. The book spec was 20wt oil... Some will use 10w 30 motor oil... The "best" thing to use is UTF - universal tractor fluid as mentioned... It is a 20wt hydraulic oil... You can get similar at Wal Mart, NAPA or the local farm store.. There are a dozen different brands, all are OK for the CA.
engine oils contain many "addatives" that are not needed in a hydraulic system.. Hydraulic oils have anti- foaming agents and water dispersent addatives that work good for that system. Edited by steve(ill) - 18 May 2020 at 3:56pm |

Like them all, but love the "B"s.
